Obituary

Rev. Roosevelt Jones Sr. was born in

Bulloch County to the parents of the late Rev. Samuel L. Jones Sr., and the late Mrs. Ollies Mae Lee-Jones. He attended William James High School and graduated in 1958. He continued his education and completed Dade County Technical Institute where he achieved a degree in Business Administration. After spending years in Hollywood, Florida where he worked in maintenance at a local hotel in Miami, he met and married the love of his life, Mrs. Reatha Childs-Jones. Rev. Roosevelt Jones Sr. returned to Bulloch County with his wife and children on December 26, 1972. It was shortly after his return to Georgia that he accepted Christ as his savior. He was committed to ensuring his family was cared for. He worked years as an independent contractor and was one of the best in carpentry. He never allowed the loss of his left arm at an early age to deter him from working hard, and being the best at his craft. In 1978, he opened one of the first taxi cab services in Statesboro, known as Jones “Flash” Cab Service. Many locals knew him simply as “Flash”. For many years he was dedicated and dependable to the numerous surrounding counties he served. Mr. Jones retired from his taxi service in 2011. However, retirement was not something he could totally do. Therefore, he continued to service a few of his long time and dedicated customers who had a need.
