FAQ       • What  makes  Rooted  unique?     o Rooted  is  designed  to  be  a  catalyst  for  life  change.  It  provides  the   opportunity  to  deepen  your  connection  with  God,  His  church  and   help  you  find  your  unique  purpose  in  the  epic  story  He’s  writing   throughout  history.     Beyond  just  another  program  or  new  small  group  curriculum,   Rooted  is  a  ten-‐week  transformational  life  group  experience.   Rooted  provides  questions,  conversations  and  challenging   experiences  designed  to  see  more  clearly  how  your  story  fits  in   God’s  story.     Research  has  proven  that  one  of  the  most  powerful  ways  we   retain  information  is  through  experience.  Through  an  experiential   model,  Rooted  teaches  people  what  it  means  to  be  a  follower  of   Jesus,  built  on  faith's  foundational  elements  such  as  worship,   generosity,  service,  evangelism,  prayer  and  studying  God's  word.     Rooted  is  for  the  spiritually  curious,  the  new  attender,  the   longtime  member—wherever  you  are  in  your  faith  journey  with   God.  Why?  Because  the  principles  of  Rooted  facilitate  fresh   encounters  with  God,  His  Word  and  our  purpose  He  has  for  us.     What  is  the  format  of  Rooted?   o Rooted  is  a  significant  commitment.  We  want  to  be  up-‐front  about   that,  but  anything  worth  doing  involves  a  certain  amount  of   sacrifice.  Rooted  is  a  10-‐week  experience  where  you  will  go   through  various  individual  exercises  (daily  Bible  and  commentary   reading,  journaling,  and  prayer)  and  then  meet  weekly  in  your   group  (at  it’s  designated  day,  time  and  location)  to  talk  about

what  you  have  learned.  For  just  weeks  1  and  8,  we  will  meet  with   all  of  the  other  Rooted  groups  and  then  break  into  just  our  normal   group  time.  There  are  also  three  additional  experiences  designed   to  deepen  some  of  the  areas  we  explore.  We’ll  pray  and  fast   together  (during  week  3),  serve  together  (during  week  6  or  7),   and  share  our  faith  (during  week  9).  After  our  10  weeks  together,   we’ll  join  with  all  the  other  Rooted  groups  to  celebrate  the   journey.       • What  if  I'm  not  able  to  commit  to  the  full  10  weeks  of  Rooted?     o We  understand  that  life  is  unpredictable  and  busy,  and  we  desire   to  give  you  as  much  flexibility  as  possible  without  taking  away  the   benefits  of  this  experience.  With  that  being  said,  we  are  asking   that  you  commit  to  attending  at  least  8  out  of  10  sessions  of   Rooted.  If  that  is  not  possible  during  this  season  of  your  life,  there   will  be  other  opportunities  to  go  through  Rooted  in  the  future.  So,   for  your  benefit  and  your  group,  we  ask  that  you  wait  to  go   through  the  Rooted  when  you  can  experience  it  in  its  fullness  and   make  a  commitment  to  attend  at  least  8  out  of  10  sessions.       • What  if  I'm  in  more  than  one  life  group?     o We  love  your  desire  to  grow  and  to  be  engaged  in  community   with  as  many  people  as  possible.  However,  since  this  experience  is   intended  to  connect  you  deeply  with  the  people  in  your  group,  we   would  ask  you  to  consider  choosing  only  one  group  for  this  10-‐ week  period  so  that  you  can  be  fully  committed  to  those  people   and  have  enough  time  during  your  busy  weekly  schedule  to  fully   engage  in  all  of  the  necessary  Rooted  activities.       • What  if  I  have  a  large  life  group?     o Since  this  experience  is  intended  to  invite  everyone  to  share  and   tell  their  stories,  smaller  groups  are  necessary  for  Rooted.  The   ideal  size  of  a  Rooted  group  is  8-‐12  people.  If  your  group  has  more   than  that,  we  recommend  you  split  into  two  groups  for  this  10-‐ week  season.

• What  if  my  current  life  group  does  not  meet  weekly?     o We  ask  that  for  this  particular  10-‐week  period  you  either  meet   weekly,  or  not  meet  at  all  and  join  another  Rooted  group,  so  that   everyone  participating  is  going  at  the  same  pace.  We  know  this   may  be  inconvenient,  but  we  believe  so  strongly  that  this  will  be   life  changing  for  those  involved  that  we  humbly  ask  that  you  make   this  commitment  for  your  own  spiritual  growth.

• How  do  I  register  for  Rooted?  What  does  it  cost?     o Each  Rooted  participant  must  register  –  even  if  you’re  already  in  a   current  life  group.  Registration  will  begin  Sunday,  January  1st,   2017.  You  will  have  the  opportunity  to  register  after  our  Sunday   worship  services  at  the  Information  Center,  on  our  website  at   www.nl-‐cc.org  or  in  the  front  office,  M-‐TR  from  9am-‐1pm.  If   you’re  already  in  a  life  group,  your  leader  may  give  you  the   registration  forms  in  advance.       Rooted  will  cost  $35  per  person  to  register  and  participate.  This   will  buy  your  individual  workbook  that  you  keep,  contribute  to   the  costs  of  the  facilitator  training,  and  provide  you  with  3  meals   at  our  large  group  meetings.  Scholarships  are  available  for  those   who  need  financial  assistance.  If  you  would  like  to  request  a   scholarship,  please  email:  markl@nl-‐cc.org

• How  will  I  be  placed  in  a  Rooted  group?   o If  you’re  not  currently  in  a  life  group,  you  will  be  placed  in  a  newly   created  Rooted  group  taking  into  consideration  the  available   meeting  days  and  times.  Our  staff  will  seek  discernment  in   assigning  people  to  a  group  and  a  leader  to  make  the  best  fit   possible.

• Where  and  when  will  my  Rooted  group  meet?   o All  of  the  Rooted  groups  will  meet  at  different  days,  times  and   locations  as  determined  at  registration.  Some  may  meet  on   campus,  while  others  at  a  nearby  home.  Some  will  meet  on

Sunday  mornings  after  the  service,  others  on  weekday  nights.   However,  for  week  1  and  week  8,  all  of  our  Rooted  groups  will   meet  together  at  New  Life  from  11am-‐1pm  (lunch  included)  on   Sunday,  January  22nd  and  Sunday,  March  12th  respectively.       • Who  all  is  going  through  Rooted?     o All  current  life  groups  will  go  through  Rooted,  as  well  as  the  youth   group  and  New  Life  Indonesia.  We  will  also  be  starting  many  new   life  groups  with  the  launch  of  Rooted.  This  is  intended  to  be  a   church-‐wide  experience.       • I've  heard  there  is  both  a  prayer  and  serve  experience.  Is  this  built   into  the  10  weeks  or  does  it  require  additional  time?     o The  prayer  experience,  which  happens  during  or  soon  after  week   3,  and  the  serve  experience,  which  happens  during  or  soon  after   week  6,  both  are  in  addition  to  your  normal  weekly  meeting.  The   prayer  experience  will  be  about  2-‐2  ½  hours  long  and  the  serve   experience  will  be  about  2-‐3  hours  long.  Your  group  will  get  to   decide  exactly  when  these  activities  take  place  around  those   designated  weeks.  Also,  as  detailed  below,  there  is  an  additional   concluding  celebration  gathering  on  Wed.,  April  5th  from  6-‐8pm.     • Will  Rooted  be  offered  again  if  I  can't  do  it  this  time?     o We  plan  to  offer  Rooted  multiple  times  a  year.  This  experience   will  now  be  the  initial  starting  point  for  all  new  life  groups.       • How  does  Rooted  end?     o We  are  going  to  have  a  party!  We  believe  this  will  be  a  life-‐ changing  experience  for  our  entire  church,  and  that  deserves   recognition  and  celebration!  So  on  April  5th  from  6-‐8pm,  everyone   who  has  been  through  the  experience  will  come  together  to   celebrate,  worship,  share  testimonies,  witness  baptisms,  and  eat   together.

• What  do  we  do  after  Rooted  is  over?     o After  this  experience,  new  Rooted  groups  will  transition  into   regular  life  groups.  There  is  a  potential  follow-‐up  curriculum   called  “Story”  that  will  be  available  for  groups  who  want  to   continue.  Ultimately,  we  believe  that  this  experience  will  put  us  on   a  trajectory  for  deeper  discipleship  and  equip  our  members  to  be   empowered  ministers  of  Jesus  who  bring  new  life  to  our  families,   friends,  neighborhoods,  city  and  the  world!
