NEWS OF THE WEEK
ISSUE #2 Friday 23rd April 2010 AllCodes is printed FREE for the clubs and sold at the grounds for a gold coin donation - all proceeds stay with the clubs! Initially printing over 4,500 programs for the Gold Coast Junior Rugby, our goals are to support all clubs across all sports nationally over the coming season.
FROM LEFT: Tom Marzella (GCRL), Matthew Bickerstaff (Every Ounce Counts),
NEW GAME dAY PROGRAMMES TO HELP CLUBS FINANCIALLY Welcome to the first edition of AllCodes, a new weekly sports publication designed to help generate funds for your local community. Published weekly and distributed to 27 Gold Coast junior and senior rugby league clubs, AllCodes will provide you with all the information you need for the day’s matches, including player information and match-ups, plus local comp news. It also features useful, money-saving coupons for you to redeem at local businesses such as family restaurants, sporting goods stores, leisure activities and more. So how does this little programme help raise funds for your club? AllCodes is printed and distributed at no cost to the club, which means that all money raised by your purchase goes directly into the club as pure profit. Your gold coin donation is just small change from your pocket, but with a starting figure of around 300 programmes for each home field per week, the result is upward of $300 per week to the home club to go towards new equipment, grounds maintenance, uniforms and other expenses. And we expect to grow, so expect that figure to rise!

Tom Marzella, Operations Manager of the Seniors League is thrilled with the AllCodes concept. “We obviously can’t afford to be picking up the tab for an advertising vehicle, but we definitely appreciate the principles behind AllCodes. Once it’s delivered, it’ll be up to the clubs to collect the coins as they hand it out, and over the course of a season this should really add up.”

FAST FACTS ABOUT
RUGBY LEAGUE 1.
2.
In 1908, only players chosen to represent Australia in overseas tours were known as the Kangaroos. More recently the term has been used to embrace all Australian representative rugby league teams. 33 clubs have played in the Sydney-based competition over the years. Only two foundation clubs remain as their original entities.
3.
The Winfield Cup, Optus Cup and the Telstra Premiership Trophy all depict the gladiators image of Norm Provan and Arthur Summons taken after the 1963 Grand final.
4.
In 1974, man of the match for a mid-week Amco Cup match received a new pair of jeans.
5.
6.
The biggest rugby league crowd was 104,583 at the Sydney Olympic Stadium in March 1999. The event was used as a test for the Olympic facilities and the crowd saw a double header of Newcastle versus Manly and Parramatta versus St. George.
It was originally Dally Messenger’s mother, Annie, who
James Giltinan, Victor Trumper and Henry Hoyle had to seek permission from for Dally to defect from rugby union to rugby league.
7.
SPONSORS
Legendary Frenchman Puig Aubert had to the nickname ‘pipette’ after his habit of smoking while playing matches.
8.
The Courtney Goodwill Trophy was the first trophy presented for international rugby league. Starting in 1936, the trophy depicts pioneering greats of the code: James Lomas (England) Jean Galia (France) Albert Baskerville (New Zealand) and Dally Messenger (Australia).
9.
The Maher Cup was the focus for passionate rivalries between teams from Southern New South Wales. From 1921 until 1971, neighbouring towns would challenge whoever happened to hold the cup at the time.
10.
Admission to a first grade game cost the equivalent of 10 cents in 1908. Today, general admission to a National Rugby League game costs about $15. 7
