OfficeEnvironments Waste Management Plan OfficeEnvironments and Steelcase are committed to supporting our clients’ LEED initiatives. We work with our clients to identify all opportunities to help them obtain LEED Credit for Waste Management by diverting construction and demolition debris from disposal in landfills and incineration facilities. We will redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process and reusable materials to appropriate sites. Steelcase packages products and components in bulk. They use returnable blankets as an earth-smart and cost-effective alternative to corrugated containers whenever possible. Wood, cardboard, and plastic materials will be reused/recycled. After the product have been delivered, OfficeEnvironments will handle the recycling and/or re-use of all of the packaging material and provide the associated weight or volume. At OfficeEnvironments we collect all trash and packaging material from our job sites and send it to a Single Stream recycling facility which separates materials and bundles them for the recycling process. Quantities of recycled material are continually measured and reported to us. In 2015 we recycled 145.47 US Tons of material and diverted it from a landfill.
Comprehensive recycling program. • All paper, office cardboard, batteries, aluminum cans, glass, and appropriate plastics are recycled. Our employees are motivated to ensure that everything that can be recycled is recycled. • We actively recycle thousands pounds of metal and packaging material each month. All cardboard received as packaging is recycled, both in our warehouses and on our jobsites. • OfficeEnvironments has extensive facilities for painting and refurbishing furniture. All of our paints and adhesives are properly removed and disposed of so they will not ever have a negative impact on the environment. • Additionally, we test the emissions from our facility to ensure that they meet all of the Air Pollution guidelines from the EPA.
REUSE
We provide our customers with options so that their used furniture and flooring will never reach a landfill. • We partner with a national network of furniture recyclers, resellers, and non-profit agencies to find other uses for furniture and flooring that would be sent to a landfill. • Our Furniture Refurbishing facilities can often restore used furniture to a like-new condition so that it can provide many more years of productive use. • We offer furniture & flooring maintenance programs that extend product life and keep it out of a landfill.
REDUCE
Commitment to providing the knowledge, equipment, and support to reduce our non-renewable resources. • We utilize technology and paperless processes for employee and client communications. • Employees have been provided with training and equipment to print double-sided, drastically reducing our paper use. • We have several LEED AP’s on staff to assist our customers with their green building projects and LEED certification initiatives.
