Sapphire Newsletter September 29, 2016

Dear Sapphire Families: Thank you for bringing your children to school on time. Their transition into the classroom is becoming more and more independent as each student puts his/her belongings away, puts his/her stick in the cup, and brings his/her water bottle to our circle. As you know, your student’s day gets off to a great start when s/he arrives with enough time to transition into his/her classroom. Please be sure to turn in ALL of your parent requirements [Live Scan, TB test results, 7 Habits class (to chaperone) 10 year driving history (must be done in person); copies of insurance (100/300), driver’s license, and registration by 9/29] prior to submitting your child’s permission form and contribution. We still need 4 more drivers! We have deadlines to meet and need to know how many drivers we can count on. Thank you for your due diligence. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions about your status. As the weather begins to cool, please send a light sweater or jacket with your child, especially on Mondays and Wednesdays as they have P.E. first thing. Be sure to label your child’s outerwear and refer to the dress code policy for permissible solid colors that can be worn inside the classroom. Jackets and coats are only appropriate for outdoor time, while sweaters and sweatshirts are permitted indoors. We provide places for them to keep their belongings and at times, they may get left behind. If it is labeled, then it is certain that its rightful owner will be found! PTFC FUNDRAISING UPDATE:

Curriculum

Practical life focus: carrying a tray with both hands and balancing the items on the tray.

We have begun formal handwriting instruction (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and are practicing writing our names in title case; that is, first letter is capital and the rest are lowercase. You may have noticed their name outlines amongst their work in their folders. With repeated practice, students make a gradual transition to writing their names in title case. We are practicing where to start forming our letters to help build the foundation for successful printing in lowercase and cursive in the years to come. Some will be reviewing capitals while others will be moving on to lowercase. Students are learning about our “care of environment” jobs that occur after our morning work period has ended. Eventually, each student will have an opportunity to choose a job that takes care of our classroom, so that it is ready for the next job time. It includes: rug rolling, librarians, sweeping, table washing; to name a few. This teaches them to work as a classroom community: each part is necessary to complete a whole.

Rosetta Stone:

Please be sure your child is practicing how to log into the program themselves with his/her username and password. The more you can provide support at home, the more independent s/he will be at school.
