Sassafras Creek Organic Farm Hiring for the 2018 Farmer’s Market Season Farmer’s Market Assistant Sassafras Creek Farm is a USDA certified-organic market diversified vegetable farm in Leonardtown, Maryland, located south of Washington, D.C. We are a husband and wife team growing over 30 types of vegetables, small fruit and grains. We are dedicated to producing exceptionally delicious, organic foods, providing meaningful employment, teaching employees and new farmers about small scale sustainable farming while protecting our natural resources and operating a profitable farm business. We sell at the California Farmer’s Market, which is a vibrant and fast-growing market with vendors selling a variety of vegetables, fruits, herbs, meat, artisan breads, baked goods, wine, hard cider, rum and whiskey, among other items. Our stand is large, busy, successful and popular. We are seeking people who like to work as part of a fast-paced, energetic, upbeat team, serving our local community. We take great pride in growing superb vegetables and will teach you everything we know about selling and operating a successful farmer’s market stand. Duties and Responsibilities – Position Description You will work alongside the Sassafras Creek Farm’s Market Stand Manager and other Market Assistants on a variety tasks: -
Helping set-up and take-down the farmer’s market stand Assisting customers in selecting vegetables Educating customers on how to store and prepare vegetables Restocking market displays during the market Keeping the stand tidy throughout the market Cashiering
Starts: 21 April Ends: 17 November App Deadline: Open Day/Hours: Saturday, 7:30 am – 2:00 pm. Season Schedule: prefer you work at least two Saturday’s per month; negotiable. Market Location: California Farmer’s Market (at the BAE parking lot located on Rt 235, across from Walmart in California, MD)
Qualifications & Preferences Providing excellent customer service is a priority. We give preference to applicants with: - prior retail experience; - good customer service skills; - experience working in a fast-paced team environment; - first-hand knowledge of cooking with fresh (local) vegetables; - appreciates USDA certified organic food; - desire to do physical work and the ability to lift 40-lbs; - natural attention-to-detail, aesthetics and quality; - a positive can-do attitude and sense of humor.
