Sault Ste. Marie Slo-Pitch League 2015 League Rules Games: No inning of the early game shall start after 1 hour. No grace period. Games must start on time. Rosters: Please see Bylaw 4 - Team Requirements of constitution. Official roster forms will be handed out at the Coaches Meeting and must be completed in full and submitted to an executive member by June 30th. A maximum of 25 players are allowed. (Note: If your team is planning to attend the SPO Provincial Tournament, the first 20 spots must be used for those players attending) A player must play in 6 league games to qualify for the league play-off tournament. Scores/Standings: All teams must complete score cards with each player’s first and last name, team name, and final score or the final score will be reported as a 0-0 tie (no points are awarded to either team). Winning teams are responsible for handing in score sheets in the score boxes located at either Strathclair or Elliot fields. Please refer to the league website www.ssmslopitch.ca for weekly scores and standings. Miscellaneous Rules: All bats must conform to the USSSA Bat Standard. Only bats on the USSSA Licensed / Approved bat list are legal for use in 2015. To be legal they must be marked "USSSA BPF 1.20" or for bats manufactured prior to 2004, marked "BPF 1.20". Playing Field: Bases are 70 feet apart. Foul Tip: A foul tip shall be the same as a foul ball. This makes any foul ball regardless of its height an out if caught. COED - Playing Field: A defensive line consisting of an arc 175 feet from home plate shall be used. No outfielder is allowed in front of this line until the ball is hit. If this is violated, the offense has the option of taking the result of the play or an award of one base to the batter and all runners. No outfielder may make a force out at first base. COED - Batting Order: If more than 10 players are in the batting order, any 10 may play defense. (Maximum of 5 males - 5 or more females may play defense) Batting Order will alternate batters (Female/Male) or (Male/Female). *Note: This rule will allow a team to have more than 5 females play defense. COED - Unequal Batting Order: The following procedure must be used when there are unequal numbers of males/females: List the males (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6) and females (F1, F2, F3, F4) separately in two lists. The batting order is followed by rotating through each list. Example:
(Male bats first) M1, F1, M2, F2, M3, F3, M4, F4, M5, F1, M6, F2, M1, F3, M2, etc. (Female bats first) F1, M1, F2, M2, F3, M3, F4, M4, F1, M5, F2, M6, F3, M1, F4, M2, F1, etc.
Code of Conduct: No Team Member or person involved with any team in any capacity will make derogatory, disdainful, disparaging comments or remarks regarding any person or program connected to the Association on any public forum, message board or bulletin board. *Note: If violated, incident will be reviewed by the League Executive

Smoking will be permitted ONLY in the parking lot as per City by-law. All divisions to play with safe/commitment lines. No tagging between commitment line and home plate. Mercy Rule: All divisions - 12 runs at 5th inning or after. Runs per inning: Coed/Mens Rec: Max. 5 runs/inning with 7th inning open. All teams may start a game with 9 players. A tenth player may be added to the tenth position any time before the end of the game. Any team that starts a game with 10 players may not add additional players. They are now substitutions. Any team that starts a game with ten or more players may drop to the minimum of nine players to finish the game (ex. player has to leave early) but all vacant spot(s) in the line-up will be declared an out every time that line-up position is due to bat and the short handed rule will apply. If a player is ejected from the game for any reason leaving the team with less than ten players, the ejected player's team must have a substitute available to replace the ejected player or that team will forfeit the game. Coed Players – a minimum of 4 males/5 females or 5 males/4 females are required to play. Note: If playing with 10 players, you must have at least 5 females. i.e You can play 6 females/ 4 males. It is strongly recommended that any type of jewellery not be worn in SPO play. If worn, each player is solely responsible for any injury/damage that may be caused by this jewellery. The umpire may have any player remove any jewellery that he/she deems dangerous. No lead offs. If a runner leaves a base without the batter contacting the ball the result is: runner is out and it is declared a no pitch. Home Run Rule: All Divisions - Match +2 Walk Off Home Run Rule – For balls hit over the fence, the batter is not required to run the bases. The team that hit the ball out is required to retrieve the ball. Play will continue with back up ball. Courtesy runners: 3 per game for all divisions. In coed, it must be male for male and female for female. Protests – please see Bylaw 17 of the constitution. Player suspensions & fines – please see Bylaw 10 of the constitution. Rain Outs - There will be no cancellation of games on the radio; teams are responsible for showing up to the field for all games. The umpire or executive member will decide if your game is to be cancelled. All other rules will be governed by the 2015 SPO hand book.
