On September 14th, Shelly Harris was here to instruct juniors & seniors on how to do well on the upcoming ACT Test.

FAFSA Filing Date

October 1st is the NEW date for filing your FAFSA. The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Seniors planning on attending college or tech centers, will need to complete a FAFSA.

This is how students can obtain grants (free money), scholarships and loans to pay for college. On October 3rd & 4th, seniors will begin their FAFSA application. Ms. Rowe will work with small groups in the library over these 2 days.

Upon completion of the program’s requirements, you will earn: 

Free tuition at an Oklahoma public two-year college or four-year university.



OR a portion of tuition at an accredited Oklahoma private college or university



OR a portion of tui-

tion for courses at public technology centers that are approved for credit toward an Associate in Applied Science degree at a public college.

The Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship does not cover fees, books, supplies, or room and board. For more information and an application, see your high school counselor. In order to be eligible, you must sign up before the end of your sophomore year.

College Visits for Seniors & Juniors SENIORS (that qualify) will be allowed 2 days during the school year for college visits. Students will need to fill out the request form and turn in to Ms. Rowe in the Counselor’s office. Students must be approved thr ough the counselor’s office prior to taking their college visit days. Forms

must be turned in at least 3 days before the scheduled visit date. Forms can be picked up in the library or in the counselor’s office. JUNIORS (that qualify) may take 1 college visit day during 2nd semester. Students must fill out a request form and turn in to Ms. Rowe.

TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS Students needing a transcript will need to fill out the yellow request form (in the library) and turn into Ms. Rowe by 2:30 on Thursdays. Transcripts will be printed on Friday mornings and delivered to students.

The University of Oklahoma Gallogly College of Engineering Registration is now open to attend the Gallogly College of Engineering Annual Open House, Friday, October 28, 2016! Since 1912, the students of the University of Oklahoma have had the pleasure of extending an invitation to area high school students to participate in the Engineering Open House, the oldest and most successful event on the University of Oklahoma campus. High school students from across the state come to Norman each year to sample what the OU Engineering programs have to offer.

The annual Engineering Open House allows tomorrow’s engineers and scientists to get started today. Fall Testing Sophomores will be taking the Pre-ACT Wednesday, September 23rd at 9:00 am . JUNIORS: All junior s will be taking a FREE ACT test on September 27th.

College Representatives at NHS Throughout the school year, college representatives will be on campus to meet with juniors and seniors regarding college

admission requirements, degree programs, tuition, & housing options for students.

Sign ups will be posted in the English classrooms (Mrs. Mayse & Mrs. Brisco).

College Field Trips Sponsored through GEAR UP Through GEAR UP, all grades will take a trip to a college/university to learn about admission requirements and tour a college campus. All students are required to attend. Class Sponsors & the Counselor will accompany students on these field trips. Students will need to dress com-

fortably on those days. Lunch will be provided through GEAR UP. Freshmen: NOC-Enid Date: TBA Sophomores: NOCStillwater Date: TBA

Seniors: Small groups to NOC-Tonkawa, OSU, NWOSU. Limit of 12 students per trip. Students must sign up. Students may attend only one trip. Dates: TBA

Pre-College Checklist: September SENIORS  Narrow your college list to 3-5

schools.  Go online and request admission

information.  Sign up to meet with admission

representatives who are visiting your school.  Make a list of test names, dates,

fees, registration deadlines, and of deadlines for college admissions and financial aid applications.  Remember that you must take

tests like the ACT and SAT at least six weeks before the deadline for scores to be submitted to colleges.

 Begin asking teachers, guidance

counselors, and employers for letters of recommendation to include with your admissions and/or scholarship applications.  Contact your high school coun-

selor about applying for national, state, and local scholarships. JUNIORS  Talk to your parents and your

high school counselor about where you want to go to school.  Begin looking at college web-

sites, and put together a list of 10 colleges that you that you would like to attend. Plan to apply to at

least 3-5 schools.  Keep in mind that colleges look

for the following: challenging coursework, strong GPA, involvement in extra-curricular activities such as sports, volunteer work, or church.  Study and register for the Pre-

liminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. (PSAT).  Go to www.fastweb.com and

www.scholarships.com to start reviewing scholarships available to you now and the requirements of those you can apply for during your senior year.
