Help Your School with Clipping Box Tops For Education

Again THIS YEAR at the Community Fair - The Pacer Fan Van and Boomer will be at this year's Community Fair Event. Families can take pictures and meet the real "Boomer"! There will also be an opportunity to participate in the Pacer Fan Van Activities. See where you would stand next to a 7 ft. Pacer player. Put your foot in their tennis shoes and much more!

Here’s how you can help: • Clip Box Tops from hundreds of your favorite General Mills products and send them to school. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents! • The money will be used for providing many students mini celebrations throughout the school year. • Have your child bring and place Box Tops in the sack/box in their teacher’s room. It is very important to put your child’s name on the envelope/bag that is brought to school with the amount listed. • Have your neighbors and friends collect these as well. • Every student who brings in a Box Top will get a prize. • Every student who brings in 25 Box Tops or more will receive various prizes and work up to better prizes. • The top class per grade level will get $20.00 towards class choice after each round. • The top class in the school will receive $100.00 for celebrations or supplies for the room.

Here are the collection dates this year: 1. Friday October 6, 2017 2. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 3. Friday, March 9, 2018 4. Friday, May 18, 2018

Parents: Many of the schools are finding that students are the ones who are transporting medications to school for their prescribed use. The ClarkPleasant Community School Medication Policy states that all over-the-counter and prescription medications for students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade must be brought in and picked up by the parent/guardian. A signed “Permission to Administer Medication” form (obtained from the school nurse) must also accompany the medicine. Please remember, all medications must be in the original, unopened container/ package. Parents, please help us enforce this medication policy to ensure the safety and well-being of your child and all children. The only exception is if a student has a doctor’s note stating that he/she can carry the medication with him/her while at school. Unfortunately, inattention to prescribed uses of any medications, including over the counter items, has been a problem in public schools across the country. This policy helps protect all children, while maintaining the integrity of their health care. If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse. Also, the school may not send any unused medication home with any student in grades K-8. Any medication not picked up by the parent or guardian one week after the last dose or before the end of school will be properly disposed by the Corporation Head Nurse. The nurse will also call the parent to remind them to pick up the medication.

Making Children Become More Responsible Once children reach elementary school, they become more capable and are able to do lots of things for themselves. There are many things we can do as parents to teach responsibility. To avoid the many pitfalls of overprotective parenting: • Don’t do everything for your child. Let him do things for himself. Will he make mistakes? Probably. But he will learn from those mistakes. • Don’t drop everything to rescue your child when he forgets things. If he leaves his homework or gym shoes at home, don’t rush them up to the school. Instead, let him face the consequences. • Don’t call the parent of a child your child is complaining about in school. Give your child a chance to work it out. However, if it is a serious problem, contact the school immediately. Whether it’s keeping track of textbooks or remembering to turn in homework, responsible behavior is a must for school success. And the best way to teach your child responsibility is to give her responsibilities. The new school year is the perfect time to sit down with your child and decide on a few tasks she’s ready to handle on her own. Then make a checklist of everything you expect her to do. Agree on small rewards for a job well done, and consequences for times your child shirks responsibility. Here is a starter checklist of responsibilities you can adapt: • Going to bed on time. • Getting up on time. • Fixing breakfast. • Selecting an outfit. • Packing lunch. • Completing homework. • Returning signed forms. • Maintaining grades. • Getting along with siblings. • Keeping room clean. • Completing assigned chores. • Reading at least 15 minutes a day. • Taking care of personal hygiene. • Feeding/caring for pets.
