Serger Club: July Serger Mat with Thread Catcher Keep you notions organized with these three zippered compartments made with vinyl to see what you have at a glance. Button on the thread catcher with a vinyl insert and what do you have, the perfect accessory for serger tools. This month we will practice quilting fabric with the chain stitch, overlock, putting in a zipper with the serger, sewing and working with vinyl, making divider tabs, and button tabs. Prior to class: A. Cut the 4 squares (or make it a square 22 x 22” of one fabric—your choice), the batting, and the backing. As always, cut some practice fabrics-- at least 6 x 6 of all the fabrics. B. Cut the remaining fabric pieces C. Binding: Sew the ends together with the bias method, trim the seams, and press in half along the length ready for binding in class. Supplies:
Serger and sewing machine with accessories, foot pedals, power cords, and instruction books. Feet: Universal foot zipper foot, walking or duel feed foot, h foot or Teflon foot Needles: Universal 80 & 90. Top stitch for quilting—90 Threads: Regular sewing to match the fabric and 30 wt. for quilting Tissue paper—couple of sheets if no Teflon foot is available.
Fabric: The sample has three fabrics---the front, backing, and contrast for vinyl and binding (you may choose the same or choose you own combination. Just make sure the fabric is a good cotton quality. You will need approximately 1 yard for the backing and front (pink) 1//2 yard for the front and thread catcher (daisy fabric), and ½ yard for the contrast (black with print) [see picture below} A.
