SERIES ‘U’ Side Break Disconnector
The ABB Series ‘U’ Side Break disconnector is a ganged, 3 pole disconnector designed for outdoor applications to comply with the requirements of AS1306 & IEC129. As a disconnector the Series ‘U’ is equipped with Flicker Arcing Horns but may be fitted/retrofitted with ABB ‘Ezibreak’ Load Break Interrupter for general purpose switching duty AS1025. 1 & IEC265.

A design is available for live line conversion of a disconnector to a general purpose switch.
Applications The Series ‘U’ disconnectors are designed to be a low maintenance disconnector available for: • General applications • Coastal installations • Lightweight applications Mounting can be by normal bolting techniques or with ‘Bandit’ straps for: • Pole top horizontal • Mid pole horizontal • Mid pole vertical Pole mounting brackets • Front of pole location • Side of pole location Crossarms • Timber • Galv. Mild Steel* • Aluminium (powder coated*) • Synthetic *Crossarm may by located flat or in a diamond configuration
Porcelain Insulators • 150kVP BIL for 12/24kV applications • 200kVP BIL for 36kV and special Fauna requirements
Current Carrying Assembly Manufactured from H.D.H.C copper with self wiping hard silver plated multiple finger contacts rated at 630A. Contact pressure is maintained by non load carrying stainless steel springs.
Phase Bearing The phase bearing consists of a stainless steel tubular sleeve located in a leaded brass bush, to combine ease of operation stability and low maintenance.
Operation The ‘U’ series disconnector is available with • Rotary handle operation (not applicable with vertical mounting) • Vertical (up/down) handle operation Down rod materials include • Fibreglass/plastic composite • Aluminium tube (powder coated) • Galv. mild steel pipe *Downrods can be installed using a hinged intermediate support or pipe guides as preferred.
Delivery The Series ‘U’ Disconnector can be delivered • UNITISED Phases fully assembled on crossarm ready for installation into the pole mounting bracket • MODULAR Phases fully assembled and adjusted ready for installation on the crossarm.
