Materials 2/3 yard Large Snowmen (Y0483-29) (see quilt) 5/8 yard Blue Tonal (Y0485-29) 5/8 yard Red Tonal (Y0485-4) (includes binding) 5/8 yard Green Tonal (Y0485-24) (includes border & sashing) 1/4 yard Red Snowman Toss (Y0486-4) 1/4 yard Green Bird Toss (Y0488-24) 1/4 yard Blue Bird Toss (Y0488-30) 1/8 yard Blue Flurries (Y0489-29) 1 ¼ yards Backing Fusible Web: 1/4 yard

Instructions: Making the Scrappy Blocks 1. Sew into a strip set a 1 ¾” wide red tonal strip and a 1 ¾” wide blue flurries strip as shown in Figure 1. Press the seam allowance towards the red fabric. Repeat to make 2 strip sets. Slice twenty-four 1 ¾” A units from the panels. 2. Sew into a strip set one 1 ¾” wide strip of Red snowman toss and one 1 ¾” wide strip of Blue bird toss. Press the seam allowance towards the red fabric. Repeat to make 2 panels. Slice twenty-four 3” B units from the panels as shown in Figure 2. 3. Sew together one A unit to one B unit as shown in figure 3. Press the seam allowance towards the B unit. Repeat to make 24 combined units. 4. Sew one 1 ¾” x 3” blue tonal rectangle to the A unit as shown in Figure 4. Press the seam allowance towards the blue fabric. Repeat to make twenty-four half blocks. Sew two block halves together to make twelve 5 ½” blocks as shown in the block diagram. Trim if needed.

TIP: cut the rows next to the selvages. 1 – 7 ½” x LOF strip (center image row) From the Blue tonal fabric cut: 2 – 5 ½” squares 8 – template A shapes 8 – template A shapes reversed 2 – 2 ½” wide x 15” strips 28 – 1 ¾” x 3” rectangles 4 – 1 ½” x 4 ¼” rectangles From the Red tonal fabric cut: 4 – 2 ½” x WOF strips (binding) 2 – prepared fusible star shapes (C) (one reversed) 2 – 1 ¾” x WOF strips 1 – 1 ½” x 15” strip From the Green tonal fabric cut: 4 – 2” x WOF strips (outside border) 2 – 2” x 35 ½” strips 4 – 2” x 22 ½” strips From the Red snowman toss fabric cut: 2 – 1 ¾” x WOF strips From the Green bird toss fabric cut: 8 – tree shapes (B) From the Blue bird toss fabric cut: 2 – 1 ¾” x WOF strips 4 – 1 ¾” x 1 ½” rectangles From the Blue flurries fabric cut: 2 – 1 ¾” x WOF strips

Making the Appliquéd Blocks 1. Center and fuse one red tonal star to a 5 ½” blue tonal square. Repeat to make two star blocks with one star shape reversed. Finish the star edges with a short zigzag stitch. Press to remove stitching distortion. Making the Tree Blocks 1. Sew together a panel of two 2 ½” x 15” blue tonal strips and one 1 ½” x 15” red tonal strip as shown in Figure 5. Press the seam allowances towards the red fabric. Cut eight 1 ½” slices from the panel. 2. Sew a blue tonal template A to a green bird tree B shape matching the rounded corners as shown in Figure 6. Press the seam towards the blue fabric. Repeat to sew a reversed A template to the opposite side of the green B shape and press the seam outward. Repeat to complete 8 tree units. 3. Sew one blue tonal unit to the bottom of the tree unit. Press the seam allowance open. Repeat to finish eight tree 5 ½” blocks.

Sewing the Quilt Center Together 1. Sew together in a row four scrappy blocks as shown in the quilt picture turning the blocks as shown. Repeat to make a second row turning the blocks as shown. 2. Piece together one blue tonal 1 ½” x 4 ¼” rectangle and one blue bird 1 ¾” x 1 ½” rectangle as shown in Figure 7. Make 4. Sew one unit to each end of the two scrappy block rows as shown in the quilt picture. Press. 3. Layout the quilt center of three panel strips, four green tonal 2” x 22 ½” sashing strips and the two scrappy block rows as shown in the quilt picture. Sew the rows together and press the seams towards the green sashing strips. 4. Sew a green tonal 2” x 35 ½” strip to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press the seams towards the green sashing strips. 5. Sew together a row of two scrappy blocks, four tree blocks and one red star block having the scrappy blocks turned and red star pointing in the same direction as the top row of the quilt. Sew the row to the top of the quilt. Press the seam towards the green fabric. Repeat to make a second row and sew to the bottom of the quilt having the scrappy blocks turned and red star block pointing as shown in the quilt layout for the bottom row. Press the seam towards the green fabric.

Adding the Outside Border 1. Measure the length of the quilt and trim two borders to that length. Sew one border to the left and right sides of the quilt. Press the seams outward. 2. Measure the width of the quilt and trim two borders to that width and sew to the top and bottom sides of the quilt. Press the seams outward. Finishing the Quilt 1. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and baste and quilt as desired. Trim the excess backing and batting from around the outside border. 2. Make the binding from the 2 ½” red tonal strips and apply to the quilt.
