Introduction The SolarWorld Sunfix Ground Mount offers the premiere system for providing clean, environmentally-friendly solar power. This fully functional solar panel system provides much-needed clean, economical and environmentally-safe energy. Thank you for your contribution to the preservation and conservation of the earth. This installation manual provides step-by-step instructions, complete part specifications, safety warnings, and diagrams to successfully construct the Tilt Leg Version of the SolarWorld Sunfix Ground Mount with Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules.

General guidelines for installation personnel Please read this manual carefully before installing the system and carry out the installation procedures correctly. This manual does not list all precautions needed for safe work. Be sure to follow OSHA guidelines. This manual provides guidelines for installation, but it does not guarantee the quality of installation work. Please complete all work in a responsible and professional manner. Electrical work should be performed by a qualified electrician; this manual is for installation purposes only.

Safety icons Various safety icons appear in this installation manual and on the products it describes. These icons are categorized, according to the consequences of ignoring the icons and handling the products inappropriately.

* * * D A N G E R O F D E AT H F R O M E L E C T R I C S H O C K ! * * * Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules generate electricity as soon as they are exposed to light. The voltage of a single module is less than 50 VDC. When several modules are connected in series, the summed voltage and current can be dangerously high. When the modules are connected in parallel the currents are summed together. Although touch protection is provided in the form of the fully insulated plug contacts, the following points must be observed when handling the Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules to avoid the risk of fire, arcing and fatal electric shock. _

The installation of the higher voltage systems should be done by qualified, licensed professionals.

_

Do not insert electrically conducting parts into the plugs or sockets.

_

Do not wear metallic jewelry while performing mechanical or electrical installation.

_

Do not fit Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules and wiring with wet plugs and sockets.

_

Tools and working conditions must be dry.

_

Exercise extreme caution when carrying out work on wiring and use the appropriate safety equipment (insulated tools, insulated gloves, etc.).

_

Do not use damaged modules! Do not dismantle modules. Do not remove any part or label fitted by the manufacturer! Do not treat the rear of the laminate with paint, adhesives or mark it using sharp objects.

Exercise extreme caution when working on wiring and the Inverter.

After switching off the Inverter, it is essential to wait for the time interval specified by the manufacturer before beginning any further work. This allows the high voltage components time to discharge.

Be sure carefully to follow the Inverter manufacturer’s Installation Instructions.

General safety precautions and guidelines The Tilt Leg Version of the SolarWorld Sunfix Ground Mount has been load-tested and verified by professional engineers. Testing information can be provided upon request. Always follow OSHA guidelines to prevent accidents; safety regulations must be observed. Always take the following precautions to prevent accidents and injury. Take the following precautions before beginning work: _

Plan the job and visit the site before starting work.

_

On site, do not work alone. Always work with at least one other person. When lifting over 50 lbs is required, work in teams of three. Each Sunmodule Plus Solar Module weighs approximately 50 lbs. Each extrusion weighs approximately 40 lbs to 50 lbs. It is highly recommended that you work in task crews with a minimum of three (3) trained installers for optimum safety and efficiency. See weights and measure specifications.

_

Inspect tools before using them.

Do not work under dangerous conditions: _

When it is raining, or there is a strong probability that it will start raining.

_

When high wind conditions exist, or are expected, or when a high wind warning has been issued.

_

When it is snowing, or when there is snow underfoot.

Wear appropriate work clothes and protective equipment:

Work clothes for both the upper and lower body should fit well and allow you to move freely.

_

Always wear protective equipment, hard hat, work gloves, steel toe boots, eye protection, etc.

Safety precautions and guidelines for SolarWorld solar modules _

Do not cut, drill into or modify SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules.

_

Never step or sit on the glass surface of a SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules.

_

Only use the supplied or specified parts to attach the SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules and tables.

_

Only use the tools specified.

_

Do not install near flammable liquids or gases.

_

Do not drop or allow objects to fall onto modules.

_

Do not use damaged modules.

_

Keep the back sides of SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules free of foreign objects.

_

Do not use chemicals on SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules when cleaning.

_

Do not wear metallic jewelry, which may cause electrical shock.

_

Do not expose SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules to concentrated sunlight from mirrors, lenses or similar means.

_

Install SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules and systems according to applicable codes.

_

SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules should be installed and maintained by qualified personnel. Keep unauthorized personnel away.

Do not short-circuit SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules output cables.

_

SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules generate electricity when exposed to sunlight.

Unpacking and checking parts The utmost care is required when handling the modules. Take care when unpacking, transporting, and storing them. Leave modules in packaging until they are to be installed. Carry Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules with both hands. _

Do not use the connection socket as a handle.

_

Do not stand modules on hard or rough ground.

_

Do not stand modules on their corners.

_

Ensure modules do not bow.

_

Do not place modules on top of each other, except as originally packaged from SolarWorld.

_

Do not subject to load, do not stand on them, do not drop.

_

Do not mark or work on them with sharp objects.

_

Keep all electrical contacts clean and dry.

In order to keep a record of your system, we recommend that you make a note of the serial numbers. If necessary to store the modules temporarily, a dry, ventilated room should be used.

Checkpoints prior to installation _

Verify inventory of all materials and tools for installation

_

Ensure that all T-Bolts have been pre-coated with an anti-seize compound and that T-Bolts are free from debris prior to assembly. (Optional: Pre-coat T-Bolts with an anti-seize compound to avoid galling. Store in a storage bag to protect from debris)

_

Check power tools and hand tools

_

Prior to mounting the SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules, make sure that the electrical junction box is faced toward the Center Beam. The top and bottom solar panels junction box will adjoin in the center. (Note: Junction box is located underneath SolarWorld Logo)

_

When mounting SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules on the Extrusions, make sure the cables are secure, never allow an output cable to become caught between the Extrusion and a module frame. Short circuits and fire can result.

_

Do not remove tape securing the cables until after installation is complete.

_

Prior to mounting Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules, remove and recycle the black plastic protection corners and white foam spacers. (Refer to the Recycling Packing Materials)

Pre-installation procedure outline General pre-installation guidelines This manual provides installation instructions for installing (1) Tilt Leg Version of the SolarWorld Sunfix Ground Mount and Sunmodule Plus Solar Module Panels for (1) Table at a time. Certain installation parts have multiple specifications, depending on procedure or whether the part is anodized or non-anodized. See table references for details.

The Installation Procedure Outline and following Steps provide instructions for how to complete a Table of any length. The part specifications used are for installing a 5M Long Table (10 Modules), 6M Long Table (12 Modules), 7M Long Table (14 Modules), 8M Long Table (16 Modules), and a connecting 3M Long Table (6 Modules). Each series of arrays are referred to as “Tables.” There are five (5) table lengths that will be utilized in the design and construction of this solar panel installation project:

1. 3M Table: 6 Solar Modules = 3 Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules x 2 Rows

16.1 Place (1) Center Beam across the center of (2) Girders, with approximately 51.5” (1308 mm) from the edge of the Girders. Use a laser to align all Center Beams in each row. 16.2 Secure (1) Center Beam by attaching (1) Rail Clamp Assembly below and against the Center Beam on top of each Girder and finger-tighten. 16.3 Place (1) Rail Clamp Assembly above and against the Center Beam on top of each Girder and finger-tighten. 17.1 Place (2) Rail Clamp Assemblies on top of (2) Girders approximately ¼” from the bottom and secure by finger- tightening. 17.2 Place (1) Outer Beam above and against the (2) Rail Clamp Assemblies. 17.3 Place (2) Rail Clamp Assemblies on top of (2) Girders above and against (1) Outer Beam and secure by finger- tightening. 17.4 Repeat Steps 17.1-17.3 to secure the top Outer Beam by first attaching (2) Rail Clamp Assemblies approximately ¼” from the top of (2) Girders. NOTE: The completion of this step creates (1) Table Assembly (5M, 6M 7M, or 8M length). 17.5 Adjust tightness of (2) Turnbuckle Assemblies until no longer slack (See Step 12 for review). QUALITY CHECK: The Rail Clamp Assemblies for the Outer Beam should be at a ¼” distance from the bottom and top edges of the Girders. Use measuring tape to verify distance.

QUALITY CHECK: The Outer Beam should extend approximately 37.5’’ (952.5 mm) to the inside of the row. Note: 8M tables will extend further toward the row end. Use measuring tape to verify distance.

QUALITY CHECK: Use (1) 3M Beam /Splice Plate Assembly as a measuring stick to confirm that the 37.5” (952.5 mm) overhang distance for Beam on adjacent tables is sufficient to fit 3M Beams.

QUALITY CHECK: Use a String-line or Laser to confirm angle consistency. OBJECTIVE: To secure the Outer Beams.

The following is an example of the table configurations, but there are many possible configuration options. 18.1 Start at one end of the row (7M Table or 8M Table only) and move to the other end. First install the 8M End Table, then the adjacent 7M Table, using the 3M Beam as a spacer. Next install the adjacent 7M Table and continue installing adjacent tables until the end of the row is reached. The last table installed is the 5M or 6M Table, if applicable. Please see the diagram below. QUALITY CHECK: Use 3M Beams with Splice Plates as spacers with 1/4" in between the ends of the beams.

19.1 Place (1) 3M Beam/Splice Plate Assembly in between (2) Beams from (2) Table Assemblies, with the Splice Plates on the bottom. 19.2 Place (4) T-Bolts heads into (4) remaining holes on (2) Splice Plate Assemblies and rotate 90 degrees. 19.3 Secure (4) T-Bolts by screwing (4) Flange Nuts onto bottoms of (2) Splice Plate Assemblies. 19.4 Repeat Steps 19.1 to 19.3 three (3) times. NOTE: This creates (1) 3M Table Leaf. 19.5 Install all 3M Beam/Splice Plate Assemblies to all Table Assemblies prior to Step 24. Materials Required for 5M, 6M, 7M and 8M Long Table: (6) EC1057 Lay-In Lug (6) ECO149 Bolt Set (Serrated Washer, Washer, Bolt, & Nut) 20.1 At the end of the row, drill a ¼” hole approximately ½” away from the end of (1) Beam on the top surface. Please note that newer versions of the Beams have this hole prefabricated. 20.2 Align (1) Lay-In Lug hole with (1) ¼” pre-drilled hole at the end (1) Beam of table at end of row. 20.3 Align (1) Washer with (1) Lay-In Lug top hole, and place (1) Bolt inside (1) Lay-In Lug top Hole. 20.4 Align (1) Serrated Washer under (1) Lay-In Lug bottom hole. 20.5 Secure (1) Bolt by screwing (1) Nut onto inside wall of (1) Beam.

20.6 Repeat Steps 20.1-20.5 one (1) time for the other end of Table row. OBJECTIVE: Attach Lugs and Bolt Sets to pre-drilled holes on top of beams at row ends.

25.2 Secure (1) Sunmodule Plus Solar Module by placing (1) End Clamp Assembly at the end of the top Outer Beam. Place the Module T-Bolt upside down into the groove. Rotate the Module T-Bolt 90 degrees and finger-tighten the M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nut. QUALITY CHECK: To ensure that the End Clamp Assembly is secured, the line on the M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nut should be perpendicular to the Beam. Note: See photo for the positioning of end clamp which is flush with the beam. 25.3 Place a second Sunmodule Plus Solar Module in between the bottom Outer Beam and the Center Beam, leaving approximately 2” from the ends.



QUALITY CHECK: The bottom Sunmodule Plus Solar Module should show the SolarWorld logo at the top next to the Center Beam, with Junction Box resting on the Center Beam.

25.4 Secure the bottom Sunmodule Plus Solar Module by placing (1) End Clamp Assembly at the end of the bottom Outer Beam. Place the Module T-Bolt upside down into the groove. Rotate the Module T-Bolt 90 degrees and finger-tighten the M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nut.

25.5 Place (2) Mid-Clamp Assemblies on the Center Beam, in the middle of the 2nd cell outlined on the tops of the Sunmodule Plus Solar Module. Place the Module T-Bolt upside down into the groove. Rotate the Module TBolt 90 degrees and finger-tighten the M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nut.

QUALITY CHECK: To ensure that the Inner Module Assembly Clamp is secured, the line on the M8 Module T-Bolt should be perpendicular to the Beam.

25.6 Place (2) Mid-Clamp w/WEEB Assemblies on the Outer Beams, against the side of (2) Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules opposite the (2) End Clamp Assemblies. Place the (2) Module T-Bolts upside down into the groove and rotate the Module T-Bolts 90 degrees. Lift (2) Sunmodule Plus Solar Module slightly to fit (2) WEEBs underneath. NOTE: Do not finger-tighten (2) M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nuts until adjacent Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules have been secured. QUALITY CHECK: Use a 5/16” Spacer or spare Module T-Bolt to measure ¼” distance between additional Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules prior to installation. Secure the (2) M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nuts by finger-tightening. QUALITY CHECK: To ensure that the Mid-Clamp Assembly is secured, the line on the M8 Module T-Bolt should be perpendicular to the Beam. 25.7 Place a third Sunmodule Plus Solar Module in between the top Outer Beam and the Center Beam, with a 5/16” measured gap, using Spacer or spare Module T-Bolt, between the adjacent (1) Sunmodule Plus Solar Module. The Sunmodule Plus Solar Module should rest against the groove of the Center Beam.

QUALITY CHECK: The Module Flat Washer from the Mid-Clamp w/WEEB Assembly should rest atop the third Solar Panel.

Secure third Sunmodule Plus Solar Module by finger-tightening (1) M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nuts on the MidClamp w/WEEB Assembly.

Place a fourth Sunmodule Plus Solar Module in between the bottom Outer Beam and the Center Beam, with a ¼” measured gap between the adjacent (1) Sunmodule Plus Solar Module.

QUALITY CHECK: The bottom Sunmodule Plus Solar Module should show the SolarWorld logo at the top next to the Center Beam, with Junction Box resting on the Center Beam. 25.10 Secure the fourth Sunmodule Plus Solar Module by finger-tightening (1) M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nuts on the Mid-Clamp w/WEEB Assembly. 25.11 Place (2) Mid-Clamp Assemblies on the Center Beam, in the middle of the 2nd squares outlined on the tops of the Sunmodule Plus Solar Module. Place the Module T-Bolt upside down into the groove. Rotate the Module T-Bolt 90 degrees and finger-tighten the M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nut. QUALITY CHECK: To ensure that the Mid-Clamp Assembly is secured, the line on the M8 Serrated Flange Hex Nut should be perpendicular to the Beam. 25.12 Place (2) Mid-Clamp w/WEEB Assemblies on the Outer Beams, against the side of (2) Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules opposite the (2) End Clamp Assemblies. Place the (2) Module T-Bolts upside down into the groove and rotate the Module T-Bolts 90 degrees. Lift (2) Sunmodule Plus Solar Module slightly to fit (2) WEEBs underneath. 25.13 Repeat Steps 26.7-26.10 to secure the remaining inner Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules in the same portrait orientation. Secure the (2) Sunmodule Plus Solar Modules at the other end of the table with (2) End Clamp Assemblies, as explained in Step 25.2. QUALITY CHECK: Each table should have module end clamps at each end of the table's beams. (see photo).
