Email #1: All Employees (Send: April 20)
As many of you have heard, there will be upcoming changes at DIA as part of the South Terminal Redevelopment Program construction. Building a hotel and train station is a monumental effort that will require temporary changes to airport access for both the public and, in some cases, employees as well. Here are some important upcoming detours for related to South Terminal Redevelopment Program bridge reconstruction.
Starting mid May 2012, if traveling by landside employee or air cargo shuttle:
•
Passenger dropoff and pickup will move to Level 6 East.
Starting mid May 2012, if traveling by taxi or shuttle:
•
During construction, there will be no passenger dropoff curbside at airline stops.
•
All taxi or shuttle dropoffs and pickups will be in their current designated median locations on Level 5 East and West.
Starting mid May 2012, if traveling by RTD bus or Mt. Elbert/Pikes Peak shuttle:
•
Passenger dropoff and pickup will move to Level 6 East.
Starting June 2012, if pickingup passengers at Terminal West:
• •
Arrival (passenger pickup) traffic will be detoured through the parking garage in order to give drivers access to Level 4. During this detour, vehicles accessing passenger pickup lanes will not be required to pull a parking ticket to access Level 4.
Starting June 2012, if droppingoff passengers at Terminal West:
•
Departure (passenger dropoff) traffic will be detoured left off of Pena Boulevard to enter Level 6 from the north (what is now the exit will become twoway traffic during the detour.
Starting June 2012 (tentative), RTD construction will impact the airside employee parking lot requiring possible detours. More information will be provided when available.
If parking in Economy Lots or Garage: •
No changes to the normal routine.
For more information, visit www.flydenver.com or call the Construction Information Hotline at 3033426400. If driving in any of these detour areas, please be sure to follow the orange signs and drive with caution.
Sincerely, Stu Williams Program Manager
South Terminal Redevelopment Program
Email #2 – Landside Employees (Send: May 1, 2012)
ATTENTION LANDSIDE EMPLOYEES AT DIA!
Changes coming to your daily use of shuttle bus system.
Starting May 19, 2012, users of the DIA landside employee shuttle bus (including air cargo and airside during SMGS) will no longer be droppedoff on Level 5.
Impacts to commute:
• •
The new dropoff and pickup location will be on Level 6 East.
Look for the orange signs to get where you need to go and please plan ahead.
Why is this happening? DIA is reconstructing the south Level 4, 5 and 6 bridges as part of the South Terminal Redevelopment Program. The resulting detours require that we relocate the employee shuttle to minimize the impacts to employee commutes to the Terminal. The Program will complete the original vision of DIA, which includes adding a 500room Westin hotel and a Public Transit Center to house the RTD East Rail Line station connecting DIA to downtown Denver.

ATTENTION AIRSIDE EMPLOYEES AT DIA!
Changes coming to your daily use of shuttle bus system.
Starting in June and lasting approximately three months, users of the DIA airside employee shuttle bus will be detoured through Gate 5 during daytime hours. Please plan ahead.
Impacts to commute:
•
DIA is adding shuttles during peak hours to minimize the impact of the detour (additional 10 minutes each way) to the roundtrip travel time.
•
Shuttles traveling between the hours of midnight – 4 a.m. will continue to access Gate 1.
Why is this happening? As part of RTD’s construction of the East Rail Line connecting DIA to downtown Denver, there will be temporary impacts to the airside parking. Because of RTD’s construction at the 78th Avenue and New Castle intersection, DIA is adding shuttles to ensure employees can reach work on time.
