Sow Farm Area Manager Job Description: The sow farms area manager is responsible for managing and directing the overall operation of multiple sow farms and their respective departments within a specific geographic area. He or she is responsible for leading and motivating sow farm managers, department leads and employees and overseeing the operation of these farms through regular visits and continuous communication. This position involves working in agricultural environments with hands-on interaction with livestock, regular travel, administrative duties and extensive employee development and oversight. Principal activities would include: • Conducting regular site visits to monitor the status of the farms and its employees • Providing support, guidance and feedback to all sow farm managers through daily communication • Scheduling and communicating necessary pig flow information to all farms • Setting and communicating production and financial targets to all farms and employees • Ensuring the health and welfare of all animals in terms of nutrition, medication and environment • Developing and monitoring adherence to all standard operating procedures and training regimens • Developing and communicating all biosecurity rules and practices • Communicating regularly with upper management and/or farm owners • Performing all other activities and responsibilities as defined by upper management and/or farm owners Required Skills/Experience: At least one year of sow farm management experience, in addition to exemplary organizational, leadership, production, problem solving and communication skills are required. Individual must be dedicated, goal-oriented, motivated, able to work independently, as well as effectively lead a team. Basic computer and data entry skills are helpful. Respect and care for all animals is required. Individuals must be capable of walking, stooping, bending, performing repetitive motions, and of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation. They also must hold a valid drivers’ license.
