Around the Community Today is Chapel Rock Sunday: Each year, hundreds of young people attend our camp. Nearly all report that the experience changed their lives. Many have told me how they came to find God amidst the beauty of nature and in the care of faithful counselors and staff. Please remember how important Chapel Rock is to our children and youth, and that every child deserves the opportunity to experience camp. If you can help, please make your check payable to St. James with “Chapel Rock” in the memo line, or go the Chapel Rock website at www.chapelrock.net/donate.htm and make your donation on line. Blessings, +Kirk

“If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” - 2 Corinthians 5:17

This. . . and That. . . Where have all the flowers gone? It’s our custom to honor the solemnity of the Lenten season by removing the flowers from the altar and draping the crosses in purple. It helps us to remember that there’s something different going on at this time of the year. It also invites us to dig a little deeper into the hidden and veiled aspects of our hearts and minds. Always remember, the Light of Christ journeys with us through our Lenten walk. We have nothing to fear. Christ’s light illumines our darkest places, heals our woundedness, and burns away the dross from our lives.

Don't forget to sign up for Easter Flowers! You can sign up on the wall in the narthex just as you enter. Please also complete a Flower envelope stating a dedication (if desired) and place in the Offertory plate. Easter Flower envelopes are available in the narthex.

Lenten Daily Meditation Booklets: This year we have two daily meditation booklets available. One is Episcopal Relief & Development’s excellent meditations, focusing on social justice and outreach. This year’s Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) Sunday will be March 13th. The other is from Living Compass. For those who’ve already participated in one of our Living Compass programs I encourage you to continue the good work with the Living Compass meditations. A blessed Lent to all.

Lent Madness 2016! Pick up one of the FREE booklets “The Definitive Guide to Lent Madness 2016: Saintly Scorecard” by the sound booth. The bracket poster will be hung up back in the fellowship area. Put your pick on the sign-up sheet by March 20th.

Lent To Lent Bible Challenge: Join Susan on the first and third Sunday of each month to find answers to questions, and to share your experiences and insights. Discover what a difference God’s Word can make in every aspect of your life: take the Bible challenge!

Reconciliation of a Penitent & Individual Confession: The season of Lent is a particularly appropriate time to consider the Rite of Reconciliation of a Penitent (see pages 446-452 in the Book of Common Prayer). Confession is an ancient practice of the Church and is not confined to any season of the year. However, many choose to make a formal confession during Lent. If you would like an appointment to make your confession, please let Susan+ know.
