I would like a career in: The Sport and Leisure industry including Sport Development Officer, Sport Performer and Coaching, PE Teaching or Working in the Health, Fitness and Exercise Industry. What will I be doing? There are excellent opportunities to gain experience in a range of roles at local, national and international sporting events. Students will undertake hockey specific coaching and leadership qualifications and will go out into schools and community clubs to deliver sessions. The course is for 1 year with most learners extending their course into a 2nd year studying the Extended Diploma. Units could include: Anatomy and Physiology; Physiology of Sport; Fitness Training; Exercise Health and Lifestyle; Assessing Risk in Sportand Sport Coaching; Analysis of Sport Performance and Talent ID; Sport Development; Fitness Testing; Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise; Practical Team and Individual Sport; Sport Events; Current Issues in Sport; Outdoor Adventure; Sport Massage and Sport Injuries; Sport Psychology; Leadership and Rules and Regulations; Nutrition and Exercise for Specific Groups. Why is studying English and Maths important? English and Maths are an essential part of your studies and will help you succeed on your course. These subjects will help you develop confidence and are the key employability skills that all employers now look for when recruiting.

What do I need to get on the course? You will need 5 GCSEs at A* to C grades or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma Merit grade or equivalent qualifications. Qualifications must include GCSE English Language and Maths at Grade C , PE is desirable but not essential. A good reference will also be required. You will be expected to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check. How do I pass the course? Assessment is from a wide range of methods. These include essays, reports, practical coaching, practical performance, discussions and presentations. What will my qualification be? •B TEC Level 3 90 credit Diploma in Sport. Year 2 (if taken) to include the Level 3 Extended Diploma What essential information do I need to know? There may be opportunities for external visits and trips. You will need to purchase a sports kit (approximately £100) for use in practical sessions and at external events along with purchasing a DBS check (£44) What can I do when I finish the course? •E mployment in the sport industry •L evel 3 study then onto Degree or Foundation Degree in Sport Coaching / Fitness / Science •P E Teaching •C YQ in Personal Training and other related qualifications • Apprenticeship in sports coaching
