Kristin (left) next to sister, Katie, and her family
K
ristin’s life turned upside down when her sister, Katie, was killed in a car accident recently. In her 29 years, Katie turned the mundane into adventures for everyone around her. She loved with all her heart.
Sometimes Kristin misses Katie so much she can hardly breathe. Though brokenhearted, she is lifted up in prayer and loved by God on whom she depends for every ounce of strength. How will the rest of her life be without Katie? Trusting that God will carry her through is the only thing that helps. God is bigger than her sorrow, more powerful and all-knowing than what she doesn’t understand.
A Time for Praise On your feet now — applaud GOD! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence. Know this: GOD is God, and God, GOD. He made us; we didn’t make him. We’re his people, his well-tended sheep. Enter with the password: “Thank you!” Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him. For GOD is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever. Psalm 100:1–5 (MSG)
Knowing God is good helps Kristin see Him working goodness through even this. A Katie Memorial Life, Love Scholarship was created to help students attend a Concordia University. Kristin prays that God would be glorified, the scholarship be funded to support future Kingdom builders, and that Katie’s life, light, and love from and for Christ would be celebrated. The #Kindness for Katie movement was inspired by Katie’s trademark smile and kind heart. God has used this earthly tragedy for His divine glory.
Dear Young Woman,
Hearing how much you enjoyed the LWML conv ention in Albuquerque last summer makes my heart sing! Wasn’t the wors hip a little taste of heaven? I never cease to be inspired by the proce ssionals and speakers. Seeing the big picture of LWML is life-changing! Knowing you want to be part of that big picture fills my heart with joy. Think about sharing your convention story with your congregation or your friends. Share the amazing accounts of the Mites In Action speakers. Stay connected by reading the Quarterly magazine, visitin g the LWML website, and following LWML and LWML Young Women in Mission on Facebook. Ask your society leader to take you to zone and distri ct events. Don’t think you need to do everything at once. Pray for God’s guidance and choose what works best for you. I’ll pray for you as you continue to keep Jesus Christ Above All.
