Skipper Training 2017 Update Last year we ran a successful Skipper Development programme for the first time and we have been able to repeat it again this year with support from the RYA. The first classroom took place on 4 April and will be followed by two weekends on the water on the water on 28-30 April and 12 -14 May. These sessions will focus on the practical aspects of skippering a cruising yacht on inshore, coastal and offshore passages. At the end of the final weekend, a personal skipper development plan will be discussed and agreed with each person.

Opportunity to Gain Skippering Experience Following last year’s Skipper Development programme Mark Parker is looking to put together some HOEOCA weekends for suitably qualified/ experienced crew/ new skippers wishing to build their sailing skills. The idea is for experienced HOEOCA members to charter a boat for the weekend and then work together to assist each other in carrying out skippering skills. The idea is to bring together relatively novice skippers who wish to support each other to develop their boat skills. Mark has obtained the following weekend options from Fairview Sailing, who are based at Port Hamble and from whom we usually charter in the Solent. If you’re interested please contact Mark Parker by text on 07964 980148 or at [email protected] by the end of Friday 14 April, stating your first and second options in order of preference, so he can secure the boat(s).
