The School Food Standards January 2015 New Food Standards come into force from January 2015. They are intended to help children develop healthy eating habits and ensure they get the energy and nutrition they need across the whole day. Variety is key to a healthy diet. Food needs to look and taste delicious. This is a brief outline of the standards: Fruit and Vegetables • One or more portions of vegetables or salad as an accompaniment every day • One or more portions of fruit every day • A dessert containing at least 50% fruit two or more times each week Foods High in fat, sugar and salt • No more than two portions of deep fried, batter coated or bread crumbed food a week • No more than two pastry items a week • No snacks except nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruit with no added salt, sugar or fat • No confectionary, chocolate or chocolatecoated products • Desserts, cakes and biscuits only at lunchtime • Salt not available to add to food after it has been cooked Milk and Dairy • A portion from this group every day • Lower fat milk must be available for drinking at least once a day during school hours

• A portion from this food group daily • A portion of meat or poultry three times a week

Starchy Food • One or more wholegrain varieties each week • One or more portions from this group daily • Three or more different starchy foods weekly • No more than two starchy foods cooked in fat or oil weekly • Bread with no added fat or oil must be available daily

Menu Spring term 2015

Fish: is served on our menus once a week for variety and oily fish once every three weeks. All fish is from Marine Stewardship Council certified sustainable sources. Fish fingers, fish portions, salmon nibbles and breaded salmon fillets are made from whole fillets and may contain bones. Special Diets If your child has a dietary need put the request in writing to the Head teacher who will then inform the catering team. Arrangements will be made for you to meet the catering team to discuss your child’s needs.
