5th September 2016 Dear Parents/ Carers, Welcome back to another school year. We wish all our pupils health and happiness in the year ahead and extend a warm welcome to all of the new staff and pupils that have joined this year. Information with regards to important dates this year and various other information will be in the bulletin this Friday but the reason for this communication is to report the findings of the Ofsted Inspection that took place on 7 th July 2016. We were hoping that the report would be ready before the summer holidays but unfortunately this was not possible. However, we are delighted to report that St. David’s continues to be a ‘Good’ school. A copy of the Ofsted report is attached to this letter and will be placed on the school website today and available on the Ofsted Reports site in the next five days. This is a wonderful outcome for everyone within the school community which recognises the hard-working and dedicated staff, pupils and stakeholders. The report is very positive and highlights areas that the school has worked hard to improve whilst also providing some ‘next steps’ for the school. In the last report it was identified the need to improve standards in mathematics. In this inspection the Inspector reported that: ‘Teachers challenge the most able pupils to ensure that they reach the highest standards. During the inspection, pupils demonstrated perseverance and strong attitudes to learning, particularly when solving problems that challenged their thinking. Pupils’ attainment in mathematics has increased and is now above the national average at the end of Year 6.’ The Inspector also found that ‘Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school. The school’s Christian distinctiveness supports pupils to develop strong values such as respect and tolerance for others.’ We should thank all staff, past and present, who have made a positive contribution to our school, the governors who have been involved during this time and the fantastic support from you, the parents. Last, but not least, our brilliant children, who constantly surprise, amaze and astound us all with their enthusiasm and achievements in all aspects of our school life. Should you wish to discuss any aspect of the report, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to make an appointment. Finally, we would like to thank you for your continuing support for our school. Congratulations, St. David’s C of E Primary School, on a great achievement. Yours faithfully, C.Ellyatt Headteacher
