Newsletter 23 – 7th March 2016 Dear Parents and Carers,

World Book Day A final reminder that we will be celebrating World Book Day tomorrow. We would love children to come dressed as a favourite book character. All the staff are really looking forward to getting dressed up too! The poet Andy Tooze is coming to school for the day to work with the children. The special ‘Willy Wonka Themed Lunch’ is also be taking place.

E-Safety Competition We had a fantastic response to our recent e-safety competition – thank you so much to all the parents who encouraged their children to enter! We were so pleased with the number of entries, as well as the quality! The winning entries were as follows: Infants: Anayah Quddous (Woodpeckers)

Juniors: Zara Afzal (Hawks)

Zara’s entry even included a list of top tips for parents! Well done to both our winners.

Class Photographs The school photographer will be in school this Wednesday, 9th March to take photographs of class groups. Please make sure your child is in their full school uniform that day. Easter Egg Decorating Competition The world-famous St. Matthew’s Easter Egg Decorating Competition is back! As usual, there are categories for parents as well as children. Entries need to be in school on Wednesday 16th March to be judged after school that day. Winners will be announced in a special assembly at 8.45am on Thursday 17th March - everyone is invited to join us on that occasion. London Trip Our Eagles had a fantastic time on their trip to London on Friday! I would like to thank all the members of staff who gave their time to accompany the children – Mrs Chamberlain, Mr Dumon, Mrs Fenton, Mrs Nagdee and Miss Shabir. As always a particular mention must go to Mrs Matthew and Mrs Trisorio for doing such a comprehensive job of organising the trip – a huge task!

Class Assembly Our next class assembly will be taking place this Thursday and will be led by our Kingfishers’ class. Everyone is welcome to join us on that occasion. If you are able to come and support your child, please do – they are always so excited to see you in school for occasions like these! Assembly starts at 8.45am.

Dance Club Our Dance Club took part in the annual Blackburn with Darwen Festival of Dance last Wednesday night. The festival took place over two nights with 40 schools taking part. It is always a great event – each school is always really encouraging and appreciative of each other’s performances. Our children’s performance – ‘Shake your tail feather!’ – was fantastic – they represented the school so well! I would like to thanks Mrs Martin and Miss Minoprio for preparing the children over the last few weeks and accompanying them on the night. Thanks also to the parents of the children for your support in making this possible. You’ve Been Spotted! Each week I share the names of the children who have been presented with wristbands for demonstrating one of our six Christian Bible Values (Thankfulness, Compassion, Forgiveness, Hope, Trust, Endurance). This week: well done to the following children: Sahil Asghar (Kingfishers) – Thankfulness
