Thought for the Week. “Look, your God is coming... he is coming to save you!” says the prophecy of Isaiah and the great things he will do are revealed, the deaf will hear; the lame will walk; the blind will see and sorrow will be a thing of the past. Through out the Old Testament the prophecies reveal God’s promises regarding the Messiah. These words remind us of the time, in Luke’s Gospel, when Jesus enters the synagogue and opens the scroll and reads from a later passage in Isaiah, concluding that “Today this Scripture is fulfilled.” The Messiah was long expected and John the Baptist, the last Old Testament prophet told that His coming was imminent. John ended up in prison and his sends his followers to ask if Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus tells them to go back to John and tell him what they see. Through His words, which echo those of Isaiah, John will know the truth meanwhile Jesus explains to the people crowded around Him who John is – the one sent to prepare the way for the Lord. It would be easy for us, like so many, to believe that these words, spoken so long ago, have no relevance today, but our faith tells us that the words are very appropriate to us here and now. St Paul reminds us that Christ will return and we must be prepared; we need to turn again to God and ask for his loving mercy. Through repentance we turn back to God and open our hearts to welcome Christ into our lives. We all need Christ’s saving power in our lives. Let our prayer this week be that of the Psalm – “Come Lord and save us!”

St Thomas’ Tean. We have a request :- No, before you shudder with an air of resignation, it's not yet another plea for more cakes! It would not cost you anything, apart from the usual time. That is perhaps one of the most significant factors in any request, I feel. On Monday, December 12th, at GreatWood Village Hall , we are setting up a sound system box for the community Carol service on Sunday December 18th. We are setting up early in the week to enable the children from our two schools to practise on the Monday morning. We have hired the equipment from Foxt at an extremely competitive rate but we do have to transport the stuff and, more relevantly, set it up. For someone who knows what they're doing this is " simple" , but it needs to be done correctly obviously. Could you spend a few minutes helping to do this setting up please? Give John a call on 07927 919 728 if you can help for a few minutes. The Tean Lights Switch-on last Friday evening in the High Street was a completely unexpected success in terms of numbers attending. We never expected such a turn out of hundreds. The most amazing thing was, at 5. 05 pm there were about 8 or 9 people there around the Crib. We looked up Hollington Lane and saw lots of tiny lights in a long procession moving down to our spot. Each light was a lantern or torch or phone carried by a child. It was very moving! We' ll address the item of public address for next year. After we have sorted GreatWood hall THIS Monday. The afore- mentioned Carol Festival is on Sunday December 18th from 2.30pm. It is, as always, free admission and you are most welcome to join us. Tean Churches Together has organised this event as well as the Lights Switch on.
