Opening Day 2017
HLLA had a successful Opening Day on April 8 with gorgeous sunny weather, where all participants and their families enjoyed the celebration of the start of a new season. The JMU baseball team and the Harrisonburg High School baseball and softball teams joined President Dean Warlitner to welcome the players by lining up in the field to give high-fives as the players’ names were called. Updates about communication between HLLA and families were announced to keep everyone informed throughout the season. The National Anthem was sung by one of the league's softball teams and the first pitch was thrown by Akeem Jordan, member of the 2004 JMU National Champion Football Team and former NFL player. The season officially began when Dean yelled the famous words, “Play Ball!” Teams went on to play their first games while families and fans enjoyed their first game day of the 2017 season. Bat-a-Thon fundraising is in full swing! After our big event on May 20th, HLLA will be hosting a pizza and bowling party at Ruby's Arcade! Players will be invited to this special event if they have raised $250 toward their Bat-a-Thon goal OR if their team has raised $1,000 toward its goal. Please note that only players that have rasied the league minimum of $50 will be invited from their teams. The Ruby's Arcade Pizza and Bowling Party will take place on June 3rd, so be sure to work on your fundraising before it's too late! Also, be sure to keep an eye out for our next issue of the newsletter for exciting information on awesone fundraising prizes!

I have encouraged my boys to give each of their interests a try in order to eventually pursue the one the ignites their truest passion. Kelton and Easton are both in their third year playing through HLLA and we are still having a blast! I have a sneaking suspicion baseball is 'the one'.
