Studio 87 – Appliquéd Place Cloth Friday, June 27th 1:00 – 4:30pm Instructor: Georgia Mate Supplies you will need:         

 

   

Series 7 or 8 machine in good working order with power cord, foot control, slide on tray and a new needle. Be sure to bring your sewing machine instruction book Embroidery module and Jumbo Hoop with the template Extra machine needles, #80/12 universal and #80/12 topstitch depending on the thread you are using. Basic sewing kit to include: Frixion fabric marking pen, long strong straight pins, pincushion, seam ripper. Bobbin filled with bobbin thread. Paper and pencil for note taking notes You will need an 8” square ruler or larger for marking your place cloth. One linen type dish towel that is mostly plain and goes with the fabrics you will be choosing. Fabric – o 3 – 5” squares of fabric for flowers o 3 – 1 ½” squares for centers of flowers o You will need two layers of Aqua Mesh large enough for it to hang out 1 inch all around the Jumbo hoop. Feet: You will need your favorite embroidery foot – mine is the #15 foot. You will also need your open toed appliqué foot and if your machine sews with a dual feed you will want to have the D foot Thread: Several spools of decorative threads, to either contrast or blend with your flower fabrics, and a spool of thread for your centers. You will need construction thread to match the thread that is used in the hems of your towel, both for the needle and the bobbin Stiletto or sewers Awl Sharp pointed scissors for trimming both the towel and the fabric that is being appliquéd to the place cloth. A School Glue, Glue Stick. Elmers works very well because it will wash out. If you want napkins to match, you will need to get 1/8 yard of fabric that will go with your towel.

Before Coming to Class: Please wash. dry and iron your towel so that it will not shrink up after you have done all of this hard work.

Class Policies:      

Classes must be paid for at time of registration. One week cancellation notice required for refund or credit fees. It is important to have all your materials before class begins and to have your sewing machine set up and ready to sew. Our teachers make every effort to start on time. All brands of sewing machines and sergers are welcome. As a courtesy to others, please turn off cell phones during class. Loaner machines are available for $10.00 rental fee at time of registration. This class is for the specific project as described here. If you wish to make something different, it should be done outside of class.
