Lisa Samuel, Founder ME1 Positive Personal Development 32 year old Lisa Samuel had worked in the community as a Youth Inclusion Worker, helping young people to access work and services, but had always had an ambition to start her own business. Lisa had a period of unemployment, which she found very frustrating, as she knew she had the skills and qualifications to succeed. Nevertheless, this also gave her time to train, and to think about her career path and where she wanted to be in the future. She happened to be passing The Works, and decided to call in to see what kind of support was available. Lisa saw a work Solutions National Careers Service (NCS) adviser, which proved really helpful in giving her information on funding and training.
“I now feel really motivated and fulfilled, as I’m doing something I enjoy, and I know makes a difference to people’s lives. The staff from The Works were very helpful and supportive, and their help and resources have been a big factor in me making this important move.”

As a result of the support she received, in January 2012, Lisa set up a not-for-profit company, ME1 Positive Personal Development, which supports young people aged between 11 and 25 from vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds. The company provides group workshops and one-to-one sessions to reduce negative thinking and behaviours, and promote positive thinking and reduce barriers to success in life.
