Week Three Worksheets

Composting and Ruminating

This week I hope that you will continue to wander and ponder, but this time with a focus on discovering the core elements of what interests, attracts and excites you about the lists and dreams that you opened yourself up to last week. This week is about starting to find ways to incorporate the core of what is important to us within the reality of our lives. As you wander and ponder, imagine that you are composting down your ideas from the last two weeks into something rich and concentrated. Go gently.

To begin, go back to the lists you worked on last week and pick up to three ideas to carry with you this week. Pick the ideas that you’re most drawn to. If you find yourself unable to choose between your ideas, simply pick three at random. For each idea, ask yourself why you would like to pursue it. What in essence would pursuing this mean to you, both in the act of pursuing it and by completing it? An example for me would be my dream of painting large landscapes, something that became physically too demanding for me. I think at it’s core landscape painting for me was about exploring the world and feeling like a working artist. Completing paintings meant I produced very large works of art. None of these core elements were exclusively connected to landscape painting and knowing that gave me the space to explore other ways of working that still satisfied the core elements of my dream.

As the week goes on you may well find yourself seeing more in each of your dreams. Keep wandering, pondering and ruminating on them. Don’t be satisfied with your surface discoveries, let the ideas compost down into a richer and more concentrated form. You may well find that the ideas you picked to look at share many common elements. That’s a good thing and will be useful when we come starting working on our Big Picture next week. Enjoy the space you’ve given yourself this week to examine your dreams.
