Tree Dedication Guidelines
♣ The Department of Community Services reserves the right to determine tree species, location and size. The donor may request a preferred location.
“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” -Warren Buffet
♣ The tree planting will be performed by the Department of Community Services.
Summit Commemorative Tree Dedication Program
♣ Time of planting will be determined by the Parks staff, at the appropriate time of season to plant trees to ensure their survival. The donator will be notified of the date and time of the planting. ♣ The Department of Community Services has the sole responsibility for the care and maintenance of trees after planting. ♣ The Department of Community Services assumes the responsibility for the survival of trees planted for one year. If the tree dies, it will be replaced in the current year. ♣ In our effort to keep our parks aesthetically pleasing and easy to maintain, no stone monuments or signs will be allowed next to the donated tree. A record of all donations will be kept in the Department of Community Services. ♣ There are two ways to make a donation: You can donate any amount to the tree dedication program or to have a tree specifically designated the cost is $250.

Commemorating Your Gift
Summit’s trees are one of our greatest assets. The City is committed to maintaining its majestic urban forest. Each year The Department of Community Services plants more than 100 trees in Summit’s parks and other City property. The Department of Community Services initiated the Commemorative Tree Dedication Program to provide an opportunity for individuals to participate in keeping Summit Green. Through the Tree Dedication Program, individuals are able to make a contribution to the tree fund and have a tree planted on City property in memory
Donations pay for the cost of purchasing and planting the tree, as well as regular maintenance such as fertilizing, watering and pruning. Each tree will be planted in an appropriate site selected by the City Arborist and will become a living tribute to family and friends. To commemorate the gift, an attractive certificate will be sent to the person being honored. In the case of a memorial gift, the designated person will receive the certificate. A permanent record will also be maintained in the Department of Community Services.
