SUPPLY LIST AND CLASS POLICIES The Betsy Skirt Sunday, November 15, 2015, 12-5pm Charlene Mayala The Betsy, a just –skimming-the-knee skirt finished with a kicky pleated flourish is a great looking skirt. Required Book: The Magic Pattern Book by Amy Barickman $22.95 CD for all patterns is in the back of the book for making your copies. Sizes available S-XXL. You can print these patterns at home but when you do you get many multiply sheets of paper and then you must cut and tape together to get your pattern. Or, you can take your CD over to the Helena Copy Center and they can print it out for you to scale on large paper. Charlene has had the pattern reproduced for class attendees at a charge of $4 for each student. Charlene will be teaching additional classes using the same book in 2016.

Supplies:

If you choose to make the skirt from one piece of fabric, you’ll need 2 ¼ yards any width (All Sizes) or 1 ¼ yard fabric (all sizes) any width for upper skirt (includes front, back, front waistband and back waistband ¾ yard fabric, any width, for Bias Trim Thread to match fabric(s) Serger thread if applicable 2/3 yard of ¾” ELASTIC 1” strip of fusible interfacing for Front Waistband (optional) 

Sewing machine (clean and in good order with a new 80/20 needle) or serger, dependent on how you want to sew our skirt together. If serging, brig three or four thread to blend with your fabrics for serging. Make sure you know how to use your machine, that you have used it

recently and it is working properly. If you are not using a Bernina machine, please bring your user manual just in case you might need it to assist the teacher.

Bring your Foot pedal, power cord, knee lift (if you have one) and slide on table #10/10C foot, #1 foot Seam gauge or small ruler Tailor’s chalk or fabric marking pen or pencil Bobbins wound with thread to match the fabric Thread to match your fabric colors- Isacord is poly/cotton and stronger Sewing notions – pins, scissors, seam ripper, safety pins, clips, large safety pin or bodkin, hand stitching needle, tape measure

Pre-Class Preparation:

Look at pattern in book and read through it before cutting your fabric to make sure you understand how to lay out your pattern on the fabrics. Pre Wash your fabrics and iron before cutting out pattern pieces prior to class. Remember, some fabric is directional and you will need to cut with fabric facing the right
