Executive Headteacher: Mrs Tamsin Caputa Head of School: Miss Fiona Price 7th October 2016 Dear Parents/Carers, We hope that you all had a lovely summer break and that your children are enjoying their new classes. The governing body would like to update you with the following information. The autumn term has started very well in school and we hope that you have experienced a positive start to the year. The children seem very settled and the atmosphere around school is happy, purposeful and busy. Miss Price has taken on the role of ‘Head of School’ following the retirement of Miss Gascoigne. She is actively working alongside Mrs Caputa, who is our ‘Executive Head’. This leadership structure will be in place for the duration of this academic year. The Governing Body’s continued focus is to raise standards of attainment across school, whilst maintaining the positive ethos we all value. We expect this model to provide stability for the school and improve outcomes for all children. Our role as governors is to regularly monitor progress and provide challenge where necessary. We closely scrutinise the ‘School Action Plan’ and evaluate progress against school targets. Following the discussions at the end of the last school year, a number of challenges were raised by parents through the public meetings, parent forum and summer term questionnaire. All of these issues have been considered alongside continuing discussions about the future direction of the school, which include possible academisation options as well as the many alternatives surrounding the appointment of a new headteacher. The governors have confidence that the current structure will enable the school to move forward in the short-term and decisions about future leadership are currently being explored. The local context is changing rapidly around this agenda, with new ‘Multi-Academy Trust’ consultations happening regularly in light of the Government’s agenda for all schools to become academies by 2022. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available. The school received a visit from ‘Her Majesty’s Inspector’ on the 23rd September. She identified that progress since February has been slow, but she recognised that “the complex task of beginning to turn the school around” has begun. We will use information from her visit to further refine the ‘School Development Plan’ and focus on continuing our strive towards being judged as a ‘good’ school in our next Ofsted Inspection. Governors will be available at the next Parents’ Evening on 30th November and we look forward to being able to introduce ourselves to you and to speak about any aspect of the school you may wish.
