Swansboro Soccer Association Laws of the Game Modifications U8 Recreation Law1: The Field 1. Dimensions: The field of play shall be rectangular. Minimum dimensions 30 yards wide and 40 yards long. 2. Markings: o Distinctive lines not more than five (5) inches wide. o A halfway line shall be marked across the field. o A center circle with a six (6) yard radius. o Four (4) corner arcs with one (1) yard radius. o Penalty area shall be ten (10) yards in depth and ten (10) yards out from each goal post in width. o All penalty kicks are indirect; there are no direct kicks at this age group. o Spectator Lines running parallel with both touchlines from penalty area to penalty area. 3. Goals: Six (6) feet high and twelve (12) feet wide. 4. Coach’s Area: o Teams on the same side of the field; coaches must stay in the area from penalty area to midfield outside the touchline on their end of the field. o Teams on opposite sides of the field; coaches are permitted to move from penalty area to penalty area outside the touchline on their side of the field. o A team is not permitted to have coaches on opposite sides of the field. 5. Conduct: Coaches are permitted to confer with referees at the end of each period in a gentlemanly manner. This is not an opportunity to dispute calls, but rather a time for simple explanations of the rules. 1. Scores are not recorded at this age group to allow the coaches and players to focus on development, or the individual player performance and team performance as a whole. 2. For goal kicks the ball will be placed anywhere along the top of the 10 yard box to resume play. 3. If the attacking side gives up possession of the ball to the goal keeper, the goal keeper will hold the ball to allow the attacking side to move back to mid field so that the ball can be “built out of the back field”. 4. The now defending side cannot attack the ball until it has been played to a defender. 5. Punting of the ball from the goalkeeper will no longer be an acceptable way to restart play.
Law II: The Ball Size three (3)
Law III: Number of Players
Maximum number of players on the field is Six (6). One of whom shall be the goalkeeper. Maximum number of players on the roster will not exceed Ten (10). Substitutions: Player substitutions are permitted during possession throw-ins, goal kicks, after the scoring of a goal and at halftime. Playing Time: Each player SHALL play in each half of the game.(Exceptions are defined in ECSA Challenge Policy III Participation.) A team must have Five (5) players to start or continue a match.
Law VII: Duration of the Game
The game shall be divided into two (2) equal halves twenty (20) minutes. There shall be a five (5) minute break at halftime. Teams will exchange ends of the field at the halftime break.
LAW XI: OFFSIDE No Offside for this age group.
