Intramural Sports Handbook All participants are required to adhere to the policies of Recreation and Wellness. Time and Location: Tournament will take place on the first floor of the RecPlex @ 8:00 PM (subject to change depending on the number of teams signed up). Tournament format and schedule will be posted on IMLeagues.com on March 20th, once registration has closed. Players: A single male or female may play in the Men’s Singles or Women’s Singles tournament. Equipment/Attire: Table tennis paddles will be provided. Tournament Format: There will be a Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles bracket. The entire duration of the tournament will occur on March 22nd. The tournament format will either be double elimination, or pool play, however exact formatting will be determined by the number of players that register. Scoring: A match will be played best two out of three games. Games will be played to 21, win by two (no cap) o A point is scored after each ball is put into play (rally scoring) A player scores a point when their opponent: o Fails to make a legal serve o Fails to make a legal return. Illegal returns occur when: A player hits the ball and it’s first bounce does not land on their opponent’s side A player hits the ball and it does not make any contact with the table

Obstructs the ball Strikes the ball twice in succession Allows the ball to bounce twice on their own side
Serving: The server shall serve five times and then the opponent will serve five times. This rotation of serving shall continue unless the score is 20-20, then the service rotation will be one serve each. o Rock, paper, scissors will determine who will serve first. o The first server will rotate for each subsequent game. The ball must be tossed and then hit; it may not be bounced before the server makes contact with the ball. The ball must bounce once on the server’s side, cross the net, and land on the receiver’s side. A let: When the ball is served, and in passing over the net, touches it or its supports and is otherwise legal o When a let occurs, no point will be awarded and the player shall serve again. If the ball is served and makes contact with the net or its supports, but does not go over the net, the point will be awarded to the non-serving player.
Please read the Intramural Handbook. It contains written descriptions of all regulations and policies that govern participation in NSU Intramural Sports, no matter which sport or activity you play. It’s imperative to the continuity of the Intramural program that all participants abide by the regulations detailed in the Handbook by the Office of Recreation and Wellness. Sportsmanship Guidelines Good sportsmanship is required of all participants to preserve fair play, and the safety of others. All players, fans, and spectators are to conduct themselves in a proper manner before, during, and after any and all Intramural events. Any individuals found to be acting in an unsporting manner will not be tolerated, and may be removed from the playing facility.
