Upcoming Ag Business Workshops February 4 | Business Structures & Tax Updates for a Farm Operation | 3– 5 pm Jennifer Adduci of Farm Credit East will discuss farm taxation updates and credits, including business structures, such as sole proprietorship, partnerships, LLCs, corporations, schedule F, Farmer Tax Exemption Certificates, and Form 4797.

March 30 | Agricultural Business Planning | 6– 8 pm A business plan is an essential road map for business success. This workshop will give you pragmatic, straightforward tools for setting goals, developing action plans for achieving them, measuring progress on an ongoing basis, and adjusting accordingly.

April 18 | Understanding Farm Leases & Accessing Land | 6– 8 pm Jerry Cosgrove will present on the basic farm lease structures, the dos and don’ts, and expectations from the lease. Cosgrove is a consultant who combines a farming background, legal experience, and a long history of non-profit work and public service. He consults on a range of agricultural, conservation, farm transfer, and rural development issues. He was formerly the associate director of the Local Economies Project. He has served as deputy commissioner of NYS Ag and Markets as well as the Northeast regional director of American Farmland Trust. Participants are asked to bring a copy of your existing farm lease, if available. We welcome landowners with any size parcel of land— from ½ acre to hundreds of acres— who want to explore the rewarding possibilities of making their land more productive by leasing it to a sustainable farmer. Farmers of all levels of experience who are planning a new farm or wish to expand an existing farm business can benefit from this class. Resources to access land or post your land will also be covered.

Proceed to end of ramp. Turn right. Go less than 1/10 of a mile, turn right onto “Ferndale-Loomis Rd at Ferndale Marketplace store (white antique building). Proceed for 2.3 miles. Stop sign. At intersection, straight. Look for CCE building on left with large sign “Cornell Cooperative Extension Gerald J. Skoda Education Center” out front. Red brick building.

Coming from New York City, exit Rt 17 at Exit 101, Ferndale. Proceed to end of ramp. Turn right to go 2/10 mile (under Rt 17). Bear right (sign for “Swan Lake”). Go 2/10 mile to Ferndale-Loomis Road (first right after quickway ramp, turn at Ferndale Marketplace, white antique building). Stay on Ferndale-Loomis Road for 2.3 miles to our red brick building on left. Large sign in front of building says: “Cornell Cooperative Extension & Gerald J. Skoda Education Center”.

May 9 | Funding Opportunities for Your Farm | 6– 8 pm Topics will include the Sullivan County Agri-Business Revolving Loan Fund, County of Sullivan IDA Agri-Business Revolving Loan Fund, US Department of Agriculture (USDA) FSA funding programs, and USDA NRCS funding programs, along with information on NYS Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) programs, NYS Electric and Gas (NYSEG) programs and other regional funding opportunities. Representatives will be on hand to answer questions and to begin the application process.

Cost is $15 per person ; $10 per CCESC enrollee*; $30 for entire series.

Option 1. Proceed straight to Main St. Liberty through 2 traffic circles to 2nd Stop light. Left onto Rt 52/Chestnut St. Several miles to Ferndale-Loomis Rd., turn left. Option 2. Make a left at second set of lights by “Sam’s Service Center”. Pizza Hut & the Liberty Diner on right. At light, straight through. Pass fast food restaurants. Go under Rt 17, bear right toward “Swan Lake” sign. Go 2/10 mile to Ferndale-Loomis Road. (First right after quickway ramp to 17 East.) Ferndale Marketplace (white antique building) on left at bottom of hill. (This is FerndaleLoomis Road). Stay on Ferndale-Loomis Road for 2.3 miles to our red brick building on left. Large sign says “Cornell Cooperative Extension & Gerald J. Skoda Education Center” in front near entrance.
