Experience Matters… At St Aloysius we are determined in our drive to ensure that we ignite ambition and belief in all of our children. This term we have provided many opportunities through school to allow all pupils a chance to showcase and celebrate their many, many talents. Our School Choirs have been busy…

Our Year 2, 5 and 6 children joined a host of entertainers on stage at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle where our children starred in the theatre production ‘The Greatest Show on the Tyne’. Performing at such a big event and in front of so many people was a fantastic experience for the children involved, who loved every minute of their time in the spotlight!

Following the School Council visit to help package and check at the Christmas Shoebox Appeal, the Year 2 choir performed at the celebration service on Sunday 2nd December at the Salvation Army Church in Jarrow.

Choir concerts have taking place in school throughout this term and have been a fantastic celebration of our children’s talents.

Other events: Year 5/6 Choir have shared in Christmas remembrance at Hebburn cemetery. Year 4 choir have also been invited to sing at Beamish museum this Christmas. Year 2 and Year 3 choirs have each been out spreading the festive cheer at our neighbouring residential homes.

Enterprise Club have had a roaring Christmas trade… It has been a hugely successful time for our KS2 Enterprise Club over recent weeks. They have enjoyed selling their goods at many Christmas markets and were named overall winners at Alnwick Gardens enterprise event. The children speak with great pride about their group and can talk confidently about all the skills they are developing. WELL DONE EVERYONE!

Engaging Families… Social events…

Following our Learning Cafes last half term, we have held two family social events, The Bonfire Extravaganza and the Christmas Bonanza were both very well supported. The families and staff speak very positively about these events, which provide a relaxed and fun way in which parents can share in their children’s school experience.

The Cultural Spring Project… In May some of our children and their families began an exciting project with a fantastic artist, Josie Brookes. Their task was to create their very own picture book. In their weekly sessions they developed lots of new skills and shared many new experiences. My One Page Profile A launch event for their published picture book was held at The Word, where the children were treated like stars and even got to meet some famous faces themselves, such as CBeebies presenter Chris Jarvis.

Sporting Success… Over the past few weeks, St Aloysius have enjoyed some real sporting success, including being named South Tyneside champions for cross country.

The children have also been very busy developing their early sporting skills with Reception excelling in their weekly gymnastics lesson, Year 1 attending a multi skills festival and Year 2 having fun at a tennis festival.

Sharing with the wider community… A selection of our children from Reception to Year 5 made a visit to the poppy installation at Our Lady Queen of Peace RC Church in Penshaw. The children enjoyed talking to the parishioners and asking lots of questions.

More than Dance

Our KS2 pupils were invited to take part in the evening production of The Northern Saints: A Celtic Journey alongside More Than Dance.
