TEAM NOTES ^^ Mizzou officially began the Barry Odom era on Saturday. Coincidentally, Odom’s final game as a player was against West Virginia, a 34-31 win in the 1998 Insight Bowl. ^^ The all-time series with West Virginia is now tied, 3-3, in six meetings. Mizzou is now 1-2 all-time in games against West Virginia played on the road. ^^ Attendance: 60,125 ^^ Mizzou falls to 81-40-5 in season openers and had a streak of 14 consecutive season-opening wins snapped. ^^ Mizzou falls to 6-17-3 in season-openers on the road. It was just Mizzou’s second road opener since 1920. INDIVIDUAL OFFENSE ^^ Mizzou had six players make their first career starts on Saturday: OL Samson Bailey, OL Kevin Pendleton, OL Tyler Howell, OL Paul Adams, WR Emanuel Hall and TE Kendall Blanton. ^^ WR J’Mon Moore hauled in a career-long 42-yard pass in the second quarter. He tallied a career-high 104 yards on a career-high eight catches. That is more yards than any Mizzou player had in a game in 2015. ^^ Freshman K Tucker McCann connected on his first career FG in the second quarter. His 24-yarder capped a six-play, 68-yard scoring dive for Mizzou, spanning 2:30. ^^ WR Chris Black made his first reception as a Tiger in the second quarter, a 15-yarder. He also added a 25-yard strike in the second quarter. ^^ Black later hauled in his first touchdown in a Mizzou uniform late in the fourth quarter, hauling in an 8-yard grab for Mizzou’s first TD of the season. ^^ QB Drew Lock threw for a career-high 280 yards and a touchdown on Saturday. ^^ WR Dimetrious Mason made his first career catch in the third quarter, picking up a first down on a third-down slant route for seven yards. ^^ QB Marvin Zanders scampered for a career-high 47 yards on seven rushes, including a 21-yard dash on his first attempt of the season. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry. INDIVIDUAL DEFENSE ^^ Three players made their first career starts on defense Saturday: DE Jordan Harold, DT A.J. Logan and FS Thomas Wilson. ^^ DE Marcell Frazier tallied his first Division I fumble recovery late in the second quarter. ^^ SS Anthony Sherrils tallied his second career interception late in the second quarter. It was his first since Sept. 19 of last season when he clinched Mizzou’s win over UConn with a 50-yard pick on a fake field goal. ^^ Senior CB Aarion Penton earned his first interception of the season with 9:19 remaining in the third quarter. It was his sixth career interception and he now has picks in back-to-back games after tallying his lone pick of 2015 in the season finale at Arkansas. ^^ Linebackers Joey Burkett and Terez Hall each recorded their first career tackles-for-loss in the opening half.
