Courts Games will be played at the RecPlex tennis courts. Players and Rosters Leagues Offered: Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles Eligibility: All participants must be either NSU students or faculty/staff, with an active RecWell membership. All participants must bring their valid NSU ID to play. Players must have joined their team’s IMLeagues roster by 4:00PM the day of the game, to be eligible to participate that day. Equipment Tennis rackets are available for rent at the RecPlex front desk. Tennis balls will be provided. Timing Tournament style will be single or double elimination depending on the number of participants signed up to play. Matches will consist of one pro set played to six games. Win by 2. If both teams reach six games, a deciding game will be played. o Each game is scored love, 15, 30, 40, game. Tie Breaking Procedures: If each team has scored three points (40), deuce will be used. After that point, advantage will be used, and a team must score two points consecutively to win the game. Sets are win by 2 points. Deuce and advantage will be used. If both teams/players are tied (deuce), the first point scored thereafter will be advantage. The next point for that team/player wins the set. Official USTA rules will prevail, with the following specifics and modifications
Start of Game Procedures The coin toss will determine which captain has the choice of serving or choosing which side they’d like to play on. Game Play If a ball touches a line, it is considered in-bounds. All games will be self-officiated. A supervisor/scorekeeper will settle all disputed calls. Serving The server must stand behind the back line and in between the sideline and the extension of the middle line when serving. The serve must pass over the net and hit the service court diagonally opposite. If the first service is a fault, the server is allowed a second serve. Please read the Intramural Handbook. It contains written descriptions of all regulations and policies that govern participation in NSU Intramural Sports, no matter which sport or activity you play. It’s imperative to the continuity of the Intramural program that all participants abide by the regulations detailed in the Handbook by the Office of Recreation and Wellness. Sportsmanship Guidelines A: Team members participate with excellent sportsmanship within the established rules. B: Team members occasionally complain to the official(s) or supervisor(s) about rule interpretations. Sportsmanship and understanding of the rules is acceptable, but could be better. C: Team members consistently complain to the official(s) or supervisor(s). Team displays poor sportsmanship and understanding of the rules. A team or team member receives an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. D: A team or team member receives two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. F: Team members participate with unacceptable sportsmanship. A team receives three or more unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
