The reasons for this are: -
To ensure they have a balanced, nutritious and healthy meal that allows them to concentrate and perform better in the classroom To support them to make healthy food and lifestyle choices, which can contribute to their long-term health and happiness To support the curriculum and personal development by encouraging communication with adults and other children. This includes reading menus and labels; thinking about quantities and measurement; and using vocabulary to describe what they see and taste.
The current charge per meal is £2.00 per day. This has remained largely unchanged since 2001, with the exception of short periods where the Governing Body approved use of the school’s previous budget surplus to additionally subsidise the cost of meals. Due to financial pressures affecting the majority of schools, the school is no longer able to subsidise meal costs and the Governing Body has reluctantly agreed to increase the charge per school meals to £2.50 per day from 1st September 2016. The school makes no profit from this. Under government policy, children of families eligible for free school meals and all children in reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are still entitled to a free meal. The school has been working with Accent Catering since 2011. Please see the attached information sheet for more detail about the quality of the provision offered at Devonshire Hill and a copy of the current menu. Catering Manager, Dean Jackson, will be holding two taster sessions for parents/carers. Please return the slip below if you are interested in attending. You will be able to see our ‘five-star’ provision, taste a selection of food we offer and Dean will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
