THE EPSILON LINEAR PRECISION TEST MACHINE The Epsilon Linear Precision Test Machine was developed by PTI, Inc. to evaluate friction, wear, and extreme pressure properties of lubricants and greases. It has the ability to evaluate the rate of wear throughout the test duration and compare wear in real time to all other indicated variables such as torque, friction, coefficient of friction, load, specimen temperature, and fluid temperature. The Epsilon has a digital micrometer to measure wear accurately to .0001 in. The controller and data acquisition is handled by computer.

MC2 AND 10W30 OIL COMPARISON

DIRECT LOAD - 49% IMPROVEMENT The sample treated with MC2 was able to carry a final direct load 49% greater than 10W30 oil. MC2 carried a load of 3,000 lbf compared to the oil carrying a load of only 2,007 lbf.

FRICTION – 68% IMPROVEMENT As the load is increased the force of friction increases as well. MC2 shows much less friction as a force when compared to oil alone. MC2 is 68.9 lbf compared to 10W30 oil at 216.7 lbf, a 68% improvement.

SPECIMEN TEMPERATURE - 2590 F REDUCTION When friction is increased so is temperature. The treated sample maintained a lower temperature than the baseline oil alone. Specimen temperature is measured by a thermocouple on the back of the vee bars. MC2 was 390⁰F compared to 649⁰F for 10W30 oil.

FLUID TEMPERATURE – 1040 F REDUCTION Fluid temperature is the temperature of the lubricant being tested. The sample treated with MC2 was 1830F compared to 2870F for the oil alone. Again MC2 outperformed the 10w30 oil.

WEAR – 37% REDUCTION Wear is dramatically reduced with the treated sample. MC2 shows only 0.0019 in. of wear to the pin. The 10W30 oil shows wear of .0030 in. MC2 reduced the wear by 37% in this instance.

TORQUE -68% REDUCTION With an increase in the direct load, not only are friction and temperature increased, greater force is required to spin the pin at a constant rpm. The torque required for the MC2 sample is only 34.4 lbf*in compared to the 108.4 lbf*in for 10W30 oil, a reduction of 68%. Less energy is required to spin the pin treated with MC2 than the 10W30 oil. This means MC2 can help lower your fuel costs. MC2 users have reported as much as 16% increases in fuel mileage.

ROTATING PRESSURE VESSEL OXIDATION TEST ASTM D-2272 IS USED TO DETERMINE A LUBRICANT’S

RESISTANCE TO OXIDATION AND SLUDGE FORMATION USING ACCELERATED TEST CONDITIONS THAT INVOLVE HIGH TEMPERATURE, HIGH PRESSURE, OXYGEN, THE PRESENCE OF WATER, AND ACTIVE METAL CATALYSTS. MC2 PASSED THIS TEST, CAUSING NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE TO BASE OIL.

SURFACE HARDNESS TEST

THE ASTM E 384-10 TEST WAS PERFORMED BY ST. LOUIS TESTING LABORATORIES. THIS TEST SHOWS THAT MC2 INCREASES SURFACE HARDNESS OF METAL ON THE ROCKWELL “B” SCALE.
