From a year ago, SWCT has learned how to “BE the ONE”, our IAAP international theme as a “B”utterfly transforming through education, networking, and fun – despite a few disasters from Mother Nature. We attended EFAM, the GNED Workshop and visited the NY Chapter on two occasions. Together, we traveled to new places, achieved the Chapter of Excellence and reached 11 of the 13 goals agreed to by the Full Board last summer. Our members, as individuals, have learned new skills through educational programs locally, in seminars and webcasts, responded successfully to the eBlast Job Opportunity postings, took on new challenges of establishing templates and public speaking. SWCT was recognized by the Stamford Mayor’s office with an APW Proclamation. We had greater consistent publicity online utilizing Facebook and Meet-up. And, our members supported each other through family crisis, job loss, and personal celebrations. There are many changes and challenges facing our organization – internationally, divisionally & locally. Our mission, goals and core values are being re-developed for the future. We as members can take the lessons learned and apply them to the coming changes. We will continue to “exhibit the highest standards of integrity through core values, ethical representation; and, transparent demonstration of financial stewardship” as our Preamble states. IAAP “Members around the world will focus their skills, energy and commitment to excellence in support of IAAP by conducting business responsibly and in a manner that reflects favorably to the Association”. As members, we will also support the Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest Statement and the IAAP Code of Conduct…because, we are part of a bigger world of Administrative Professionals. Thank you for the honor of serving SWCT and the administrative professionals in the greater Fairfield County.

2012- 2013 Treasurers Year End Report As the new 2012 – 2013 SWCT Chapter Treasurer, this has been an interesting and new experience for me. With Barbara Campbell’s guidance I was able to take on this responsibility; thank you Barbara! As the Treasurer, I am happy to report that our financial goals were all achieved. A budget template was created for the monthly reporting, IAAP and GNED Treasury deadlines were met, all expenditures and revenues were properly recorded. The financial review for this fiscal year is due to be completed by August 1st. A volunteer is needed. As of May 23, 2013, our revenues and expenses are as follows:
Operating Revenue Chapter Revenue Ways & Means Revenue Operating Expenses Meeting Expenses Ways & Means Expenses
Amount $1,854.23 $ 384.77 $2,517.92 $ 706.01 $2,221.66 $1,660.00
Description Meetings, APW, Etc. Member Dues, Donations, Etc. Mohegan Sun Trip, Entertainment Book, Avon and Raffles Insurance, Bond, Etc. Meetings and APW Expenses Mohegan Sun Trip and Entertainment Book
The highlight of this year from a treasury point of view was the Mohegan Sun Trip Fundraiser event, which was a financial success. SWCT was able to able to raise over $500 on this event alone. Not only was it a success, it was also a fun trip. Thank you all for your financial support; this allows the board to provide great programs to the chapter and prospective members. Carmen Roldán SWCT Treasurer
2012 – 2013 Year End Program Chair Report The Southwestern CT chapter had a very exciting program line up for the 2012-2013 year. We started off in September at the Melting Pot in Darien, with a presentation from Lori Finck, Parliamentarian, called “Good Meeting, Better Meeting—it’s all in the Process.” Lori spoke about the basics of running a good meeting. In February we met at a Mexican restaurant called Mary Ann’s in Stamford. The program was presented by Siomary Melendez of Thomson Reuters. Entitled “Travel Safety Tips for Women,” it was quite interesting and informative. In November we had a Boston Market fundraiser with an APW and By-Laws workshop. The January 2013 meeting was held at Pellicci’s in Stamford, and our presenters were Kyle Naylor and Kevin Eckhardt, of Office Team. Their topic was “Administrative Trends.” In February our program chair presented one of the IAAP programs, entitled “The Unique Role of a Multi Manager Administrative Assistant.” This was a new experience for us, as it was the first time one of our members presented the pre-approved programs established by IAAP Headquarters. In March we had a business meeting/APW event planning meeting hosted by Purdue Pharma in Stamford. The APW breakfast that was to be held in April was postponed due to lack of enrollment. We learned some valuable lessons from this that we will apply to future events; and the Stamford Sheraton has been very accommodating to us. Our May meeting was a business meeting hosted by Terex Corporation in Westport. The topics covered were the APW Proclamation, a Chapter of Excellence Report, the Delegate/Alternate for GNED, the Delegate/Alternate for

EFAM, Nominations for the 2013-2014 year and of course, our ever popular raffles. The amended By-Laws were submitted to GNED and a discussion was held, with no questions or changes. The attendees also contributed items for the GNED chapter raffle basket. We had 5 chapter members attend the GNED conference this year in Plymouth, Massachusetts and our June meeting will be our annual meeting with installation of 2013-2014 officers. Many of our programs this year qualified for recertification points and we also had quite a few guests join us. The Board would appreciate any feedback from our members with suggestions of topics and speakers you would be interested in, as well as venues for meetings. Please continue to spread the word about IAAP and our chapter, and continue to invite guests to our meetings. The first meeting of the 2013-2014 year will be held at the Stamford Sheraton on September 17th, and will feature one of our most popular speakers, Julie Jansen who is a career coach and author. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer and let’s get excited for some great programs next year! Peggy Ficano Program Chair

Mohegan Sun Fundraiser Event Spectacular, spectacular event, a must attend event is what SWCT had on April 9th, as 50 supporters of IAAP attended the Mohegan Sun Fundraiser. Thanks to our members who recruited family and friends. The 1st bus stop was Norwalk, then Stratford. Once everyone boarded the bus, detailed information about the trip was given to all the passengers. Then the fun began as we announced all the great raffle prizes. Thanks to all our sponsors, we had a great turn out. A group of 20 dined together at the Season Buffet while others shopped or played at the casino. There was so much to do and see; the time just flew. My favorite part of the trip was my special hat from Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville and of course my new pair of pants from Cache. I hope you can join us for our next trip! ~ Reyna Vallejo, VP/Ways & Means chair

As SWCT President, it was wonderful to see our Chapter be an active participant from the raffles, contests (Reyna won the costume contest!), to the diverse speakers and business session. There was something for everyone and meeting new colleagues while revisiting with those previously met is always a highlight. GNED also offers the opportunity to explore new places and Plymouth offered a fun venue across from the ocean and with beautiful weather, we experienced excellent food, beverages & shopping. But, most importantly, it was definitely my pleasure to bring to the Greater New England Division the SWCT invitation to come to Fairfield County for GNED 2015. Our theme “Reaching for the Stars” was approved by the membership unanimously! ~ Elizabeth White-Peters
This is my second GNED conference and I am hooked. There is nothing better than to have a great weekend of networking and excellent programs. Plymouth did ROCK! They kicked it off with the BEST 1st speaker Alesia Latson “Get Ready For Your Next Tour with Building Your Structure, Presentation and Command”. The great vendors, Friday night live band, and let’s not forget our famous GURU Keynote speaker Gini Courter (AMAZING). The conference ended with what I consider a highlight, Norm Bossio “How Can We All Get Along”, what a great motivational speaker. I hope that you will consider attending this great event next year. ~ Reyna Vallejo
As a first time attendee at the GNED Annual Conference I highly recommend that you consider attending a future meeting. The conference was an awesome experience with great educational sessions, phenomenal motivational speaker, Norm Bossio, and a great technology session with Keynote Speaker Gini Courter. Learning while having fun is the way to go. This is an experience you don’t want to miss! Great networking opportunity. ~Carmen Roldan I attended the GNED Annual Conference in Plymouth, Massachusetts and the annual meeting as the chapter alternate. It was so much fun networking and bonding with other Division members. The seminars and speakers were so interesting, and the host committee did an excellent job putting this together. It was a very worthwhile experience overall. ~Peggy Ficano
Wow! What a conference! The continuing educational sessions were great! I have already shared some information on cultural tips for the workplace. The motivational speaker was a hoot! Theme “find that person’s candy bar of choice” it helps! Made new contacts and reconnected with those I met last year! Highly recommend to anyone who can do it. You come away feeling empowered. ~ Martha Zenner
