“Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads”
Great Scott! A malfunctioning flux capacitor transported the QFT back in time to the year 1955 for a special sold-out event celebrating one of cinema’s most beloved science fiction treasures.
Despite being set in the fictional Californian town of Hill Valley, Back to the Future actually has some of its history firmly rooted in Northern Ireland. Before becoming one of most iconic time machines in film history, the DeLorean car was originally manufactured in a factory located in Dunmurry.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis, Back to the Future stars Michael J. Fox as high school student Marty McFly who, after travelling thirty years back through time and inadvertently preventing his parents from ever meeting, finds himself on the brink of being erased from history. With the help of the eccentric Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), Marty must bring his parents together and travel back to 1985 before his time quite literally runs out.
Prospective time-travellers were treated to giveaways, delicious Jameson Whiskey cocktails and an Enchanted Under-the-Sea prom night inspired soundtrack, provided by DJ and broadcaster Ralph McLean before the show. The event’s sell out success caught the attention of Marty and Doc, who hit eighty eight miles-per-hour and travelled to 2013 in order to give film fans the unique opportunity to have their picture taken with a real DeLorean.
Apparently they were quite shocked to learn that we’re still no closer to inventing the flying car or the hover board.
