2 Corinthians Series Study Sheet Week 14 – July 31 Message Title: The Law of Sowing and Reaping Passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 Have you heard Christians talking about the idea of God making us financially rich in reward for our obedience? What form did this take (keep the conversation gracious!)? Can you see how this idea could be taken from v6? Is that a legitimate interpretation of this verse in your view? What does Paul mean by sowing generously and sowing sparingly? Give practical examples of what each would look like. Are you more on the ‘sowing generously’ end of the spectrum, or the ‘sowing sparingly’ end? Where do you want to be and how could you move? What does Paul mean by reaping generously and reaping sparingly? Reuben described four ways in which we can experience ‘reaping’ in response to our generosity (sowing): 1. God’s provision for our needs (v8). Have you experienced this? In what way? 2. Growing our character (v9). How does generosity grow our character? Have you experienced this personally? 3. Increasing our “store of seed” (v10). What do you make of v10? What do you think of Reuben’s interpretation that if we prove ourselves to be generous God may entrust us with more wealth so that we can be even more generous? 4. Reaping rewards in the lives of others (v12). What are some of the blessings that come to others through our generosity (don’t just think money!). Generosity is hard. What is one practical step you could take this week toward becoming a more generous person?
