MechoSystems’ state-of-the-art SolarTrac® Automated Shade System is installed in The New York Times Headquarters in Manhattan. And, when paired with the electrical lights, has provided energy savings of 24%. The company occupies floors 2–27 of the 52-story tower. The majority of the space is an openplan office design, configured to maximize views to the outside. The SolarTrac System’s design results in reduced heat gain, control of solar-ray penetration, and overall environmental sustainability. This WindowManagement® System contributes to the building’s energy efficiency and overall occupant comfort. The technology automatically adjusts the position of the shades incrementally throughout the building according to the angle of the rays of the sun using a PC-based system.
