March 2012
Throw Out the Lifeline
In May of 2011, an uniden1fied man waded into the San Francisco Bay, and waited to die. As the waters con1nued to move above his head, he made no effort to escape its grasp and eventually succumbed to its power. He took his own life. There is another part of this story that is equally sad. He did so while rescue personnel, those being policemen and fireman, watched, and because of “internal policies”, did nothing to save the man’s life. Can you imagine watching a man taking his own life, while standing on shore and doing absolutely nothing about it? That totally flabbergasts you and I. We cannot even comprehend what must have went through their minds in that moment, or even the man’s mind, knowing that his help was standing on shore, wai1ng. Isn’t that what Jesus did on the cross? He threw us a lifeline, by volunteering to become our sacrifice for sin, so that we could know eternal life. He must really love us to give us that kind of giQ? He also calls you and I to be the sowers of hope. He wants us to throw lifelines to people in need of Him too. How many people do you and I connect with, everyday, that don’t know Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour, and haven’t secured their des1ny with eternal life? We work with them, live with them, and have influence with them everyday. They are people who are spiritually drowning. Jesus is coming back! The bible indicates that one of the reasons Jesus hasn’t returned yet is because God is giving as many as possible the opportunity to receive Him as their personal Saviour. 2 Peter 3:9 says this: The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is pa8ent with you, not wan8ng anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. Fortunately for our friends and family who don’t know Christ yet God is delaying Christ’s return. Yet God has placed us into their lives, as well as them into our lives. God has called us to become rescue workers for people who don’t know Christ. The 1me is now. The task is to save our friends and family who are drowning in sin, and help them find new life in Christ. Begin praying today for that person(s) that is in need of a Saviour, and throw them a lifeline. Pray and allow God to use you to share the hope of eternal life so that they can be saved and brought into the Family of Christ. Pray that you get to celebrate their first Easter together, as a child of God this year.
