Ticked off 13 March 2016 “Unshackled” Series Lifegroup Questions INTRODUCTION Last week we started our unshackled series talking about the importance of acknowledging the offenses in our lives. This week we continue our conversation, as we look at our response to the offenses against us. Will we hold onto our pain or let it go? Will we detox or self destruct? Today let’s take a look at how negative emotions become toxins that defile our souls.

DISCUSSSION QUESTIONS

1. Read Genesis 45:1-12. What stands out to you in this passage and why? 2. Joseph was a passive-aggressive person when it came to dealing with his pain. Of the three types of people (Aggressive, Passive, or Passive Aggressive), which one best describes you and why? 3. Offences elicit emotional responses. Has there every been a time in your life when your emotional response surprised you or caught you off guard? What happened? 4. It is unhealthy to hold in your emotions. You need to learn to express them in a controlled and healthy way. What are some ways/strategies that you use to help you release your emotions? 5. Staying mad becomes a toxin to our souls. It messes up relationships and affects our physical health. In what ways have you seen the toxins of negative emotions affect your life? 6. Read Ephesians 4:26-27 & 31-32. What do you need to do this week to release the foothold that the devil has on your emotions and move towards freedom? Take time to pray over one another as you embark on a new journey to freedom this week.

CONCLUSION Ultimately, we need to look to God for healing. Healing is a process and God is our healer. Joseph knew that God could be relied on to make things good again. He said, “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good!” He was able to look behind the pain, and find God in his midst. In the same way, Jesus is our wounded healer. We need to look beyond ourselves and beyond our enemies to the one who has already paid for our healing in full. This week, make a conscious choice to give up your right to be mad, in exchange for your right to be free! The choice is yours.
