Directions for Coffee Service Volunteers Coffee pick up and set up before the 8:30 Service ends (by 9:15)
To avoid the possibility of spills in your vehicle while transporting the coffee, we recommend that you place towels or blankets on the floor or wherever else you may put the cambros in your vehicle while transporting them. Additionally, if you’re transporting in the back of a van or pickup truck, you may want to use bungee cords to tie them together to further increase their stability to avoid the chance of them tipping over. There are some towels and bungee cords in the coffee cart at church in case you want to pick them up sometime before your scheduled pickup on Sunday morning. There is also a flat cart with wheels in the room behind the kitchen which you can use to move the cambros from your vehicle into the hallway if you want.
1. Pick up the two coffee cambros at Starbucks at Perinton Square Mall between 8:45and 9 am Sunday morning. There will usually be a large one for regular and a small one for decaf. 2. Put the cambros on trays on the coffee cart in the Narthex. The trays will be on the cart, in one of the drawers, or in the kitchen. Using the trays limits the spills that someone will have to clean up later. 3. Put the supplies on top of the cart. You’ll find baskets of stir sticks, sugar, tea, cocoa and creamer in the bottom of the cart. Extras can be found in the kitchen (bottom corner cupboard). 4. Put some napkins and coffee cups on the cart. They should also be in the cart, or in the kitchen. 5. Heat water for tea and cocoa. Because tea and cocoa have become popular, you should fill TWO carafes. There is a red tea kettle on or above the stove in the kitchen. Fill it with water and put it on one of the burners on the stove. The knob should be turned to vertical to turn it on. When ready, use hot mats to fill the large stainless steel carafe in the coffee cart. Heat up a second batch in the red tea kettle and fill the second carafe in the kitchen. When finished make sure you turn the stove burner completely off (knob goes back to horizontal). Put both carafes on the coffee cart.
Clean up and return cambros after the 11:00 Service
1. During the Benediction, leave the service and make sure there are enough creamers in the basket (you’ll find more in the bottom left part of the cart) and heat more water for tea, if needed (see above, step 5). 2. Usually, by 12:30 most everyone is gone. Empty the water carafe and the cambros in the kitchen. Please wash and return the hot water carafe to the bottom left part of the coffee cart. 3. Clean up the top of the coffee cart. There are paper towels and cleaner in the top right drawer in the coffee cart. 4. The remaining cups go in the bottom drawer, and the rest of the supplies go in the bottom left part of the cart. 5. Make sure the red tea kettle is left on the top shelf above the stove. The pilot lights on the stove are hot enough to keep the water hot in the kettle and the water might evaporate and the teakettle burn up. Make sure the stove knobs are completely off (in the horizontal position). 6. Return the empty cambros to Starbucks at Perinton Square Mall. They just have to be put behind the counter.
