The airport also has a railway station, which runs a regular (every 30 minutes) and fast service (approximately 1hour 15 minutes) to London Waterloo. Explorer House is half a mile from a David Lloyd Leisure Centre and one and a half miles from a large supermarket. The Building Explorer House was built in 2010 with a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The building has large, high-quality, open-plan office floor plates surrounding a spectacular full-height atrium. The building structure is made up of a part-steel and part-concrete frame construction, arranged over ground, first and second floors. The elevations have a mixed finish with a curved western frontage made of solid panel cladding, including double glazed curtain wall windows with metal framed surrounds. This frontage is extended at either end (North and South) by a 10.5m high freestanding wall, which acts as an acoustic buffer shielding the building against noise from the adjacent motorway. The remaining elevations have a similar solid panel cladding, with brick sections. These include varying degrees of glazed curtain walling which is most extensive to the northern and eastern elevations of the office. The atrium and two entrances have significant glazing.
