Indoor Climbing/Top Rope Competition Intramural Sports

RULE ONE: Eligibility and Facility A. Eligibility 1. This activity will be conducted according to standard eligibility rules as set forth in the current LSU University Recreation’s Intramural Sports Participant Handbook. 2. Participants must be listed on their respective team rosters prior to participating and an LSU Tiger Card or Government Issued ID must be shown prior to entering a contest. 3. The participation by an ineligible player will subject the offending person to forfeiture of the contest in which the ineligible player participated, and possible removal from the competition. 4. All participants will be required to sign a waiver at the climbing wall before participating in this event. B. Facility 1. All climbs will take place within in the Climbing Area inside the UREC facility. C. Climbing Area Rules 1. No loose chalk. 2. Closed toed shoes required. 3. Socks must be worn with rental shoes. 4. Do not climb directly over other participants. 5. Patrons may not move or create hand or foot holds. 6. Only spill-resistant and shatter-proof drinking bottles are allowed in the climbing area. 7. Personal belongings should be stored in a day-use locker. RULE TWO: Division Composition A. This competition will feature three separate divisions for each gender. 1. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced will determine which route the climber climbs. RULE THREE: Equipment A. Equipment including Climbing Shoes and Climbing Harness will be provided at the UREC Climbing Area. B. Personal equipment is permitted once approved by tournament staff prior to climbing. C. Participants may only be belayed by a UREC Adventure Assistant. RULE FOUR: Scoring A. Each route climbed with be timed by a tournament staff member. B. Climber may only compete and submit a time from ONE division. C. Each climber will be allowed a maximum of two attempts and will choose to use their best time. a. Each attempt will be broken up into two heats. b. A climber can choose to forfeit his/her second climb if satisfied with the first climb’s time.

D. A climber is not allowed to touch another hold that is not specific to the route. a. A 20-second penalty will be added for each hold touched outside of specific route. E. A winner will be declared from each division based on the best time.

RULE FIVE: The Climb A. Climbers will begin facing away from the Climbing Wall with both hands behind their back. B. Time will begin when the timer announces, “Go”, and will stop when the climber hits the bell placed at the top of each route. RULE SIX: General Rules A. All participants must abide by the Climbing Wall rules posted both in the UREC Climbing Wall Area and stated above in these rules. B. Any climber who falls will be assessed a 30-second penalty to their overall time. C. Bolt holes on the wall are not permitted to be used as hand holds at any time.
