FC Memorial Challenge The creation of the FC Memorial Challenge is to honor those individuals who have made an impact on our youth by being involved in the ENZSA (Edmonton North Zone Soccer Association) and / or the Xtreme program. IMPORTANT DATES: November 26, 2012 December 7, 2012 December 8, 2012 January 4, 2013 February 6, 2013

All teams in the super pool are guaranteed four (4) games being three (3) round robin games with one (1) cross-over game. Teams MUST be available Friday night for a game. All games will take place at the South Soccer Center. In the event that we do not have 8 teams registered in a certain category, the Super Pool will not proceed and teams will be moved into the regular pool. Registration for this Super Pool will open on November 26, 2012 and the final closing date will be January 4, 2013. Registration will be centered on a first come, first serve basis, extra teams will be put on a wait-list and will fill any spots of teams that withdrawal. If we have an over-whelming response in this division, we may add two (2) pools or run a Tier 1 as part of the Regular tournament (regular rates would apply). When registration opens on November 26, 2012 – we will guarantee the following spots for zones/leagues until December 7, 2012: 1. EMSA – two (2) teams 2. CMSA – two (2) teams 3. Out of Province/Town and EIYSA – four (4) teams Starting on December 8, 2012 – all guaranteed spots will be released to those on the wait-list. For example: If on December 8, 2012 – only one (1) EMSA team has entered the super pool we will release that EMSA spot to whomever is first on the wait list.

All teams playing in a Tier 1 division (or equivalent) for the 2012/2013 Indoor Season are eligible to enter this pool. Tier 2 teams will be taken on a wait-list basis and will be entered into the Tier 1 Super Pool should we not receive enough Tier 1 entries.

All teams are required to fill out their team’s roster online no later than February 6, 2013 @ 4:00pm. All guest/trialist forms must be handed in prior to your first game. No changes to the team roster can be made once that team’s first tournament game has been played. Any changes to a team’s roster after the deadline must be made at the ENZSA office or at the East tournament headquarters. A maximum of three (3) coaching staff members may be on the bench during the time of play. One of the three members must be the same gender as the players. Players are permitted to play on only one team in this tournament. Players on U12-U18 teams must be of the appropriate age group as outlined in A.S.A. rules but may include players from a lower age group.
4. Eligibility of Coaches/Players i.
All coaching staff and players (including guest players) must be currently registered with a youth soccer association recognized by A.S.A. or C.S.A for the Indoor 2012/2013 season to participate in this tournament. Any coaching staff and/or players (including guest players) under any type of suspension from any A.S.A. or C.S.A recognized soccer association will not be permitted to play in this tournament. ii. No players can be registered on more than one team roster. iii. Any coaches or players that are under any kind of suspension from any ASA or CSA recognized soccer association must advise the tournament committee, who will decide (based on the offence) if the player/coach will be permitted to participate in the FC Memorial Challenge Tournament. All suspensions will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Player cards are not required for this tournament however must be shown upon request by tournament officials. Please note: Failure to produce any of the above identification (if requested) may result in the forced forfeit of the game(s) being played by the team.
5. Guest Players i. ii.
Each team is permitted three guest players during the tournament. All players (including guest players) must be currently registered with a youth soccer association recognized by A.S.A. and/or C.S.A for the Indoor 2012/2013 season to participate in this tournament.

A guest player must be from one (1) Tier lower than the tier in which your team is registered in for normal season play and of the same or lower age group as the age group of the receiving team’s tournament category in order to be registered on that team’s roster. The guest player must have written approval from their original team with signatures from their original team as well as their tentative tournament team. This approval must be handed in with the team roster. Teams must submit guest / trialist forms to headquarters prior to their game. Coaches are advised to keep a copy of the forms throughout the entire tournament. Guest players must be marked as guest on the team roster and game sheets. Any player that is registered to a team playing in the EMSA Indoor 2012/2013 league is not permitted to play as a guest player for a team that is playing in the EIYSA Indoor 2012/2013 league. Any player that is registered to a team playing in the EIYSA Indoor 2012/2013 league is not permitted to play as a guest player for a team that is playing in the EMSA Indoor 2012/2013 league. Guest and trialist mean the same thing and the wording can be interchanged without changing the meaning.
6. Team Rosters i.
All teams are required to hand in their completed team’s roster and a copy of any guest player letters no later than February 4, 2013. No changes to the team roster can be made once that team’s first tournament game has been played. ii. No players will be added to any team roster after that team’s first tournament game. iii. No players can participate in the tournament without being on a team roster. Players not on the team roster prior to the team’s first tournament game are deemed ineligible. iv. No players can be registered on more than one team roster. v. The maximum number of players permitted on a team roster is as follows: U12-U18: Twenty (20) players including goal keeper(s) A team may dress according to their age group. vi. Non- EMSA teams are required to carry a signed copy of their ASA team roster and provide it to any tournament official upon request. Please note: Absolutely no player registrations will be approved at tournament headquarters – please ensure you have enough players prior to entering the tournament. If after deadline changes need to be made the changes are made at ENZSA or at tournament headquarters.
7. Out of Province Teams / Non-EMSA teams (Facility Waiver) i.

Travel Documents All out of province teams must submit travel sanction forms with their roster on or before 4:00pm on February 6, 2013. Facility Waivers (Non-EMSA teams) All teams who are not playing in the EMSA league for the 2012/2013 Indoor season, must provide ENZSA with facility waivers for each player / coach / manager / bench
attendant prior to their first game or confirmation from their home zone that they hold in their possession copies of the team’s waiver forms.
8. Games i.
Format of Game The format of this super pool will be a four (4) team round robin with a Cross-Over game a) The length of the “Round Robin” games (U12-U18) will be as follows: U12-U18: 25 min x 2 Games may end in a tie during Round Robin play.

The length of the “Cross-Over” game (U12-U18) will be as follows: Regular Game : 25 min x 2 If game is tied, the result will be determined by:
Medal Games: Over Time: 5 min x 2 with GOLDEN GOAL Kicks from the Penalty Mark (if needed) Non-Medal Games: Kicks from the Penalty Mark Games may NOT end in a tie during Cross-Over games

Each team will play a minimum of four (4) games with medals and trophy being awarded after the last game (if applicable). d) The “Mercy Rule” will NOT apply to this group. Over-time Rules Any team entering into over-time as a result of a tied medal game, must follow the following rules: a) A one (1) minute break will be given once the end of the regulation game has been played. b) A coin toss will take place between both teams. c) Home team will call the coin toss. d) Whomever wins the coin toss will get to decide which team takes the first kick of the 1st over-time half. e) A one (1) minute break will be given between over-time halfs. f) For the 1st over-time half, team will defend the net opposite their bench and will switch sides in the 2nd over-time half. Format of Pool a) “Round Robin” play format. All tied games in Round Robin play format will stand. b) “Cross-Over” pool format will have play-off games scheduled within the two sided pool. All tied games in this Cross-Over must be determined by either over-time and/or kicks from the Penalty Mark.

c) Medal games are defined as the final games in the Cross-Over game, whose results determine Medal stands (Gold, Silver, and Bronze). See Format of Play for how a tie will be broken in this pool. Game Sheets a) Official FC Memorial Challenge game sheets will be used throughout the tournament and are available to print off the website. b) Game sheets are to be completely filled out and given to the game official prior to the kickoff of each tournament game. c) Ensure all players (including guest players, labeled as “guest”) are listed on the game sheet prior to kick off. Any player not listed on the game sheet prior to kick off will be deemed ineligible to play. d) Tournament officials will collect game sheets from game officials at the end of each game. Game Balls a) The home team is required to provide a suitable game ball, as determined by the game official, which is as follows: U12 SIZE 4 U14-U18 SIZE 5 Point system a) A win entitles a team to three (3) points. b) A loss entitles a team to zero (0) points. c) A tie entitles each team to one (1) point. d) NO points will be awarded for shutouts. The Kicks from the Penalty Mark has five players (5) from each team, that are eligible to participate as the "shooters". They can be any player (even the goaltender) who is dressed for the game and on the game sheet (this includes back-up keepers, who are designated as player 20 on the game sheet). By a flip of the coin, the first team has their first player shoot. Forfeiting Games a) Should any team forfeit a scheduled game the opposing team will be awarded a final score of three to zero, as well as three points. b) Should both teams forfeit a scheduled game the final score will be recorded as N/S (no score) and no points will be awarded.

Miscellaneous a) If not clear, the team mentioned first on the schedule will be deemed the home team. b) In the event that both teams wear like colors, the home team will be required to change jerseys or wear pinnies as determined by the game and/or tournament official. c) Stats will be posted on the tournament website (http://fcmemorialchallenge.soccer-football-tournaments.com/) and on information boards located at each Edmonton center.
9. Rules of Play/Discipline/Protests i.
Rules of Play: a) This tournament following the current ASA rules to indoor soccer. ENZSA reserves the right to amend parts of these laws as outlined within these tournament rules. b) All players, coaches, coaching staff and any assisting personnel as well as players’ parents are expected to obey the laws of the game and respect all tournament officials. c) Game officials reserve the right to exercise use of the laws of the game as soon as they enter the field of play, when they leave the field of play and the surrounding areas of the field of play. Please note: Foul or abusive language will under no circumstance be tolerated. Threats and/or assaults made towards any tournament officials during this tournament will generate an immediate suspension pending the A.S.A. Discipline Committee action in accordance with A.S.A. Rules and Regulations. ii. Discipline for U12-U18 teams: a) Red Cards are an automatic minimum one game suspension. Two yellow cards in a single game will result in an automatic one game suspension to be served the following game. b) If a player receives a second red card in the tournament, that player must report to HQ immediately after his or her team’s game. The player will not be permitted to participate in any further tournament play and may face further suspension. c) It is the team’s coach’s responsibility to ensure that their players serve their discipline during the tournament. d) Players serving a red card game suspension are not permitted be on the team bench during the game they are suspended from. Please note: The Discipline Committee will convene, if required, and will advise the coaching staff of any suspension that they feel appropriate. The Discipline Committee’s decision is final.

Protests: a) Protests of any tournament game results will be reviewed provided that the protest is in writing accompanied by the amount of one hundred dollars payable to the Edmonton North Zone Soccer Association. The tournament headquarters must receive this within one hour of the protested game’s completion. Protests in reference to the “laws of the game” and protests of decisions by game officials will not be accepted. b) Playing ineligible players (see above “Team Rosters”) will result in the forfeit of any game the said player participated in. If a protest is upheld, the team filing the protest will be awarded a one to zero win as well as three points.

Commemorative Award a) A free tournament gift will be provided for each player in the tournament. Please pick yours up from the ENZSA office prior to the tournament or at the East Soccer Centre (12720 – Victoria Trail) during the remainder of the weekend. Awards Presentations a) Gold, Silver and Bronze (for the U12 to U18 categories) medals will be awarded to the top three (3) teams in each category. Awards will be presented in the main concourse of each Soccer Center following the final game of the schedule in that age category. The gold medal winners in each group of the Super Pool will also have their team name mounted to the official FC Memorial Challenge trophy as the “2013 Gold Medal Winners.”

Coaches: Please note that the expectation at this tournament is the portrayal of proper conduct by all members of the team. Any unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated during this tournament. Coaches are encouraged to remind any and all spectators of your team that their job is only to support the players of their own team. Also remind all members that without an opposing team there would be no competition for the tournament so while competition is a healthy part of the game, there is a fine line between that and unsportsmanlike behavior. Any individual portraying such behavior is subject to being asked to leave the facility. The organizing committee has the final say with all matters relating to the tournament. They reserve the right to refuse any entering team at any circumstance. They also have the right to adjust tiers and groups as they see fit. No refunds will be issued after the registration process is closed. See registration forms or website for exact date. These rules are intended to be all-inclusive, however in the event that an issue arises that is not covered by these rules; participants of this tournament are bound by the final decisions of the tournament committee.
Kicks from the Penalty Mark In the event of a tie where a result is needed, “Kicks from the Penalty Mark” will be the determining method used to break the tie game. Rules/ Regulations/Procedures/Conditions 1. Teams will receive a one minute break. In that time the referee will determine which net will be used as well as perform a coin toss between the two team captains. The winner of the coin toss will be awarded the choice of first kick for their team. 2. Tournament officials and eligible players are to be the only personnel remaining on the field during the time of the kicks. Should any other individual enter the field during this time the opposite team will be awarded the win by one point. 3. Kicks will be taken alternately by teams. 4. Each kick will be taken by a different player until all eligible players have taken a kick. 5. The referee will record the kicks, subject to the conditions below; both teams will take five kicks. Conditions 1. Any eligible player may only change places with the goalie, at any time during the kicks. 2. If before both teams have taken all five kicks a team has more goals than the other can obtain to win, no more kicks will be taken. 3. If after both teams have completed five kicks, the score remains equal between the two teams, the kicks will continue in a “Sudden Death” format. Kicks will be taken one by one and the first team to score one more than the other wins.
