February 26, 2016 To the Membership of UBE, Mid-West Region Welcome to our Mid-West Regional Conference, “Let the Church Say Amen: Building Community,” to be held at Trinity Cathedral, Cleveland. This conference is the first held in our region in a very long time. As you may know UBE has been very active at the National level and some of our Chapters have been engaged on the local, diocesan and national level as well. This Regional Conference is designed to help us build community among ourselves during these challenging times and will provide some tools to strengthen Chapter leadership and give further direction to our efforts. Chapter leaders and members should leave with a draft Chapter calendar of activities/ministries. Our Honorary Chairs, Bishops Thomas E. Breidenthal, Wendell Gibbs and Arthur B. Williams, have expressed how pleased they are that we are holding this conference. It would be helpful for your chapters to bring material to exhibit, outlining chapter programs in which you have been active, or programs of your diocese to create, or other efforts in social justice ministries in which some of your members may be engaged. Please note that included is the Regional Business Meeting which provides time to share Chapter activities and elect the next Regional Director. Saturday, April 9th
1. Clergy Forum – Provides an opportunity for Black Clergy around the region to gather and share their challenges and successes 2. Young Adults in the UBE—This program is being developed by Chris Decatur, Youth Missioner at Trinity Cathedral, and will address issues and concerns of young adults in the Episcopal Church and in UBE. They will join the Chapter break out groups in the afternoon to integrate their work and their presence in the work of the Chapter. Facilitated by: Chris Decatur, Trinity Cathedral, Cleveland. 3. Congregational Renewal and Social Justice – This forum will include presentations on the New Visions program of partnering parishes (designed by the Office of Black Ministries), Vital Teams (a program of the Episcopal Church Foundation to build strength and leadership in our parishes), and our ties to social justice. Facilitated: by Rev. Clifton Ellis, Rev. Ron Byrd (ECF).
