A BSENCE P ROCEDURES , RESPONSIBILITIES & M ORE
Follow training rules (code of conduct) - the training rules are in the best interest of the players as young adults. This is part of the athlete’s commitment to excellence.
We expect you to be at every practice, game, and meeting; they are all important.
Don’t lie, don’t cheat, don’t steal (one of John Wooden’s rules) - this means to or from any person, place, or thing associated with our program. Respect our equipment and our facilities- our uniforms, basketballs, etc., cost a lot of money, so take pride in keeping them in good condition throughout your career at CG. Don’t do anything that will embarrass you, the program, the community, or your family. No jewelry allowed in games or practices. Injuries and illnesses should be reported to the trainer and coach immediately so that treatment can be initiated as soon as possible. Players must communicate with and listen to their coaches and each other - we coaches do not know everything that goes on with our players, and the players don’t know everything that goes on with each other either. So we must talk. Display good sportsmanship always; be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. Respect our bus drivers and the bus itself there is NO food or drink on the bus without the permission of the driver. If it is allowed, we MUST be sure to clean up any messes we create upon our return home from a game. Be the best students possible, in and out of the classroom. Strive every day to become the best of which we are capable, in and out of the classroom.
If you are absent from school, you must contact your level coach by 3rd period or leave a message. If you are leaving school and will not be at practice, you must see your coach before you leave. Do not leave and explain later. Do not leave a note in the coach’s mailbox. Find your coach before you leave unless it’s an emergency. Excused Absences: these include illness, serious illness or death in the family, or school-related events (in other words, the same definition as the school’s for excused absences). Unexcused Absences: these include any absences of which the coach is not informed prior to practices, games, or meetings. Also included are absences that would not be considered excused for class. Vacations, outside athletic events, work, concerts, detentions, etc., are examples of unexcused absences during basketball. Parental Contact with Coaches Acceptable concerns to discuss with coach: treatment of your child physically or mentally, ways to help your child improve, your child’s behavior
* D ISCIPLINE This is the 3rd year that we are allowing club athletes to miss basketball practices and games for their club sport practices and contests. As the year progresses and we find out the effects of players missing for club sports, we may have to alter our discipline or consequences. Again, this is all under review as the season progresses. We will do our best to make this work to keep club players in the program now and in the future.
Coach Saffert will explain the rules and consequences to the players at the pre-season information meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 18th, from 6:30-7:15am in room C21 and at the Parents/Players/Coaches Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 19th from 6:30-7:30pm in the cafeteria. He will answer any questions you may have at that time. The Athletic Director and Principal may also be present for you to ask them questions as well.
Unacceptable concerns to discuss with coach: playing time, team strategy, play calling, other athletes *Disciplinary Actions include Oregons, Skill Work, or Loss of Playing Time. All Oregons and Skill Work must be made up, if possible, before the next game the athlete plays. Loss of playing time for missed games must be served the first half of the next game. Consequences for Missed Practices and Games Missed Practice = Oregons and/or Skill Work Missed Game = sit 1st half of next game
T RAINING R ULES V IOLATIO NS (M EET WITH THE HEAD COACH )
There will be a consequence for each practice/game/meeting missed (# of days determined by Athletic Handbook’s rules on duration of punishment for the offense.
